[Daniel 1:12] Nas-na (נַס־נָא - Test, please): This [Nas (נַס)] is the imperative form (leshon tzivui - לְשׁוֹן צִוּוּי), similar to [the use of na with an imperative in]: “Please entreat (chal-na - חַל־נָא) the favor of the Lord” [I Kings 13:6].
[Daniel 1:12] Yamin asarah (יָמִים עֲשָׂרָה - Ten days): And the reason for “ten days” is because a living being (chai - חַי) cannot endure hardship [or illness, without it becoming noticeable] for more than nine days. Thus the masters of natural science/biology (ba'alei ha-toladot - בַּעֲלֵי הַתּוֹלָדוֹת) have mentioned. And instead of the king's pat-bag (פַּת־בַּג) [food], give us legumes (zero'im - זֵרֹעִים). These are seeds/grains (gargirim - גַּרְגְּרִים) when they mature/dry. And instead of wine, give us water.
