1 כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ הַיּ֖וֹם תִּשְׁמְר֣וּן לַעֲשׂ֑וֹת לְמַ֨עַן תִּֽחְי֜וּן וּרְבִיתֶ֗ם וּבָאתֶם֙ וִֽירִשְׁתֶּ֣ם אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהֹוָ֖ה לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ "Tous les préceptes que je vous impose en ce jour, ayez soin de les suivre, afin que vous viviez et deveniez nombreux, quand vous serez entrés en possession de ce pays, que l’Éternel a promis par son serment à vos pères.

3 וַֽיְעַנְּךָ֮ וַיַּרְעִבֶ֒ךָ֒ וַיַּאֲכִֽלְךָ֤ אֶת־הַמָּן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־יָדַ֔עְתָּ וְלֹ֥א יָדְע֖וּן אֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ לְמַ֣עַן הוֹדִֽיעֲךָ֗ כִּ֠י לֹ֣א עַל־הַלֶּ֤חֶם לְבַדּוֹ֙ יִחְיֶ֣ה הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֛י עַל־כׇּל־מוֹצָ֥א פִֽי־יְהֹוָ֖ה יִחְיֶ֥ה הָאָדָֽם׃ Oui, il t’a fait souffrir et endurer la faim, puis il t’a nourri avec cette manne que tu ne connaissais pas et que n’avaient pas connue tes pères; pour te prouver que l’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais qu’il peut vivre de tout ce que produit le verbe du Seigneur.

15 הַמּוֹלִ֨יכְךָ֜ בַּמִּדְבָּ֣ר ׀ הַגָּדֹ֣ל וְהַנּוֹרָ֗א נָחָ֤שׁ ׀ שָׂרָף֙ וְעַקְרָ֔ב וְצִמָּא֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֵֽין־מָ֑יִם הַמּוֹצִ֤יא לְךָ֙ מַ֔יִם מִצּ֖וּר הַֽחַלָּמִֽישׁ׃ qui t’a conduit à travers ce vaste et redoutable désert, plein de serpents venimeux et de scorpions, sol aride et sans eau; qui a fait, pour toi, jaillir des eaux de la pierre des rochers;

Non! C’est de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu dois te souvenir, car c’est lui qui t’aura donné le moyen d’arriver à cette prospérité, voulant accomplir l’alliance jurée à tes pères, comme il le fera à cette époque.
19 וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־שָׁכֹ֤חַ תִּשְׁכַּח֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ וְהָֽלַכְתָּ֗ אַחֲרֵי֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַעֲבַדְתָּ֖ם וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִ֣יתָ לָהֶ֑ם הַעִדֹ֤תִי בָכֶם֙ הַיּ֔וֹם כִּ֥י אָבֹ֖ד תֹּאבֵדֽוּן׃ Or, si jamais tu oublies l’Éternel, ton Dieu, si tu t’attaches à des dieux étrangers, que tu les serves et que tu leur rendes hommage, je vous le déclare en ce jour, vous périrez!
20 כַּגּוֹיִ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ מַאֲבִ֣יד מִפְּנֵיכֶ֔ם כֵּ֖ן תֹּאבֵד֑וּן עֵ֚קֶב לֹ֣א תִשְׁמְע֔וּן בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ {פ}

Ibn Ezra

English

Your clothes Some say that this was a miraculous sign. Others say that they brought many garments out of Egypt. The probable explanation is that a diet of manna naturally does not give rise to perspiration.

did not swell [Hebrew: vaṣeqah] from “they baked the dough [Hebrew: baṣeq ” [Exodus 12: 39]. When someone travels on foot for a long distance, his foot normally swells up. Here, it is likely either that God gave them extra endurance, or that He made them walk slowly.

Ramban (Nachmanides)

English

THY RAIMENT WAXED NOT OLD UPON THEE. “The clouds of [Divine] Glory brushed their garments and pressed them so that they looked like freshly ironed articles; and so it was with their children, as they grew their garments grew with them.” This is Rashi’s language and also are the words of Agadah. But Rabbi Abraham ibn Ezra wrote: “Other scholars say that they took many garments out [of Egypt]. And it is possible that it was not in the nature of the manna to produce perspiration [thus enabling their garments to last so long]. And so also he stated that neither did thy feet swell, meaning that He gave them strength or that He led them slowly.” But his [Ibn Ezra’s] words are not correct, for Moses mentions this to them in order to say that upon observing the commandment [of G-d] they will have food and raiment, and renew [their] strength, even as they lived by the manna forty years and they had garments, and the way with their feet they treadeth not. All of this was miraculous, for by every thing that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Eternal doth man live and becomes supported. And if you were to cover a rafter with a new cloth it would wear out in forty years even though there is no perspiration, how much less man, that is a worm.
