1 לְכוּ֙ וְנָשׁ֣וּבָה אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּ֛י ה֥וּא טָרָ֖ף וְיִרְפָּאֵ֑נוּ יַ֖ךְ וְיַחְבְּשֵֽׁנוּ׃ Allons, retournons à l’Éternel, car a-t-il déchiré, il nous guérira aussi, a-t-il frappé, il pansera nos blessures!

2 יְחַיֵּ֖נוּ מִיֹּמָ֑יִם בַּיּוֹם֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י יְקִמֵ֖נוּ וְנִחְיֶ֥ה לְפָנָֽיו׃ [Déjà] au bout de deux jours il nous aura rendu la vie; le troisième jour il nous aura relevés, pour que nous subsistions devant lui.

3 וְנֵדְעָ֣ה נִרְדְּפָ֗ה לָדַ֙עַת֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֔ה כְּשַׁ֖חַר נָכ֣וֹן מֹצָא֑וֹ וְיָב֤וֹא כַגֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ לָ֔נוּ כְּמַלְק֖וֹשׁ י֥וֹרֶה אָֽרֶץ׃ Tâchons de connaître, hâtons-nous de connaître l’Éternel: son apparition est certaine comme celle de l’aurore, il vient à nous comme la pluie, comme la pluie d’arrière-saison qui abreuve la terre.

4 מָ֤ה אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־לְּךָ֙ אֶפְרַ֔יִם מָ֥ה אֶעֱשֶׂה־לְּךָ֖ יְהוּדָ֑ה וְחַסְדְּכֶם֙ כַּעֲנַן־בֹּ֔קֶר וְכַטַּ֖ל מַשְׁכִּ֥ים הֹלֵֽךְ׃ Que dois-je faire pour toi, Ephraïm, que dois-je faire pour toi, Juda? votre amour est pourtant comme une nuée matinale, comme la rosée qui se dissipe de bonne heure.

5 עַל־כֵּ֗ן חָצַ֙בְתִּי֙ בַּנְּבִיאִ֔ים הֲרַגְתִּ֖ים בְּאִמְרֵי־פִ֑י וּמִשְׁפָּטֶ֖יךָ א֥וֹר יֵצֵֽא׃ C’est pourquoi je fais des trouées parmi les prophètes, je les fais périr par les paroles de ma bouche, et ainsi tes arrêts éclatent à la lumière.

6 כִּ֛י חֶ֥סֶד חָפַ֖צְתִּי וְלֹא־זָ֑בַח וְדַ֥עַת אֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵעֹלֽוֹת׃ C’est que je prends plaisir à la bonté et non au sacrifice, je préfère la connaissance de Dieu aux holocaustes,

7 וְהֵ֕מָּה כְּאָדָ֖ם עָבְר֣וּ בְרִ֑ית שָׁ֖ם בָּ֥גְדוּ בִֽי׃ tandis qu’eux à la façon des hommes ont transgressé l’alliance et, depuis lors, me sont devenus infidèles.

8 גִּלְעָ֕ד קִרְיַ֖ת פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָ֑וֶן עֲקֻבָּ֖ה מִדָּֽם׃ Ghilead est une cité de malfaiteurs, pleine d’embûches meurtrières.

9 וּכְחַכֵּ֨י אִ֜ישׁ גְּדוּדִ֗ים חֶ֚בֶר כֹּהֲנִ֔ים דֶּ֖רֶךְ יְרַצְּחוּ־שֶׁ֑כְמָה כִּ֥י זִמָּ֖ה עָשֽׂוּ׃ Telles des bandes qui guettent le passant, telle est la troupe des prêtres: ils assassinent sur le chemin qui conduit à Sichem, tant ils commettent d’infamies!

10 בְּבֵית֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל רָאִ֖יתִי (שעריריה) [שַׁעֲרֽוּרִיָּ֑ה] שָׁ֚ם זְנ֣וּת לְאֶפְרַ֔יִם נִטְמָ֖א יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Dans la maison d’Israël, j’ai vu des choses horribles; là s’étale l’inconduite d’Ephraïm, là se déshonore Israël.

11 גַּם־יְהוּדָ֕ה שָׁ֥ת קָצִ֖יר לָ֑ךְ בְּשׁוּבִ֖י שְׁב֥וּת עַמִּֽי׃ {פ}
A toi également, ô Juda, on te prépare une moisson, alors que je voulais réparer les pertes de mon peuple.

And as a man gathers fish, so do bands Heb. וּכְחַכֵּי. And as a fisherman gathers fish, who gathers them with a fishhook together, so do bands gather. Companies of their priests, who gather to go on the road, will all murder there in one group.

for they devised a plot For this is a plot which they plotted prior to their gathering, to which place they would go to murder and to loot. וּכְחַכֵּי means ajjmedours in O.F, fishermen. And also in mishnaic Hebrew, חַכֵּי is an expression of joining. The Gemara states (Baba Kamma 119b): “And he shall not put into it more than three חַכִּין.” Those are the stitches with which the comber joins together both ends of the garment when he beats it with sticks. This [following] interpretation is mine, and it seems appropriate, and this is the explanation: And when there is a group of five men gathering together, it is a company of priests to murder. The first one is that of Rabbi Meir Sheliach Zibbur o.b.m.

וכחכי - היו"ד תחת ה"א, על דרך: לכלא הפשע גם הוא באל"ף תחת ה"א, ואלה השתים מלות זרות הן, כי משפט בעלי הה"א בסמוך לכלות לחכות. והטעם: כאשר יחכו גדודים - איש שיבא ויפשטוהו, ככה הם חבר כהנים. והנה הזכיר נביאי השקר גם הכהנים.

שכמה - כמו לעבדו שכם.

והנה גדודים - ישרת בעבור אחר כגדודים בדרך ירצחו כולם. הטעם: שהכהנים יקחו מתנות כהונה בחזקה.
