1 וַיִּקָּבְצ֧וּ כׇֽל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶל־דָּוִ֖יד חֶבְר֣וֹנָה לֵאמֹ֑ר הִנֵּ֛ה עַצְמְךָ֥ וּֽבְשָׂרְךָ֖ אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃ Tout Israël s’assembla et vint auprès de David à Hébron, pour lui dire: "Nous sommes ta chair et ton sang.

2 גַּם־תְּמ֣וֹל גַּם־שִׁלְשׁ֗וֹם גַּ֚ם בִּֽהְי֣וֹת שָׁא֣וּל מֶ֔לֶךְ אַתָּ֛ה הַמּוֹצִ֥יא וְהַמֵּבִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ לְךָ֗ אַתָּ֨ה תִרְעֶ֤ה אֶת־עַמִּי֙ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאַתָּה֙ תִּֽהְיֶ֣ה נָגִ֔יד עַ֖ל עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Déjà hier, déjà avant-hier, alors que Saül était roi, c’est toi qui dirigeais toutes les expéditions d’Israël. C’est toi, t’avait dit l’Éternel, ton Dieu, qui gouverneras Israël, mon peuple, toi qui seras son chef."

3 וַ֠יָּבֹ֠אוּ כׇּל־זִקְנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל אֶל־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ חֶבְר֔וֹנָה וַיִּכְרֹת֩ לָהֶ֨ם דָּוִ֥יד בְּרִ֛ית בְּחֶבְר֖וֹן לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיִּמְשְׁח֨וּ אֶת־דָּוִ֤יד לְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה בְּיַד־שְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ {ס} Tous les Anciens d’Israël vinrent donc trouver le roi à Hébron; le roi David fit un pacte avec eux à Hébron devant l’Éternel, et ils le sacrèrent comme roi d’Israël, selon la parole de l’Éternel à Samuel.

4 וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ דָּוִ֧יד וְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם הִ֣יא יְב֑וּס וְשָׁם֙ הַיְבוּסִ֔י יֹשְׁבֵ֖י הָאָֽרֶץ׃ David et tous les Israélites marchèrent sur Jérusalem, qui s’appelait Jébus. Là étaient les Jébuséens, qui occupaient le pays.

5 וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ יֹשְׁבֵ֤י יְבוּס֙ לְדָוִ֔יד לֹ֥א תָב֖וֹא הֵ֑נָּה וַיִּלְכֹּ֤ד דָּוִיד֙ אֶת־מְצֻדַ֣ת צִיּ֔וֹן הִ֖יא עִ֥יר דָּוִֽיד׃ Mais ceux-ci dirent à David: "Tu n’entreras pas ici." Toutefois, David s’empara de la forteresse de Sion, qui est la Cité de David.

6 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד כׇּל־מַכֵּ֤ה יְבוּסִי֙ בָּרִ֣אשׁוֹנָ֔ה יִהְיֶ֥ה לְרֹ֖אשׁ וּלְשָׂ֑ר וַיַּ֧עַל בָּרִאשׁוֹנָ֛ה יוֹאָ֥ב בֶּן־צְרוּיָ֖ה וַיְהִ֥י לְרֹֽאשׁ׃ David avait dit: "Celui qui battra les Jébuséens en premier deviendra chef et prince." Ce fut Joab, fils de Cerouya, qui monta le premier, et il devint chef.

7 וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב דָּוִ֖יד בַּמְצָ֑ד עַל־כֵּ֥ן קָרְאוּ־ל֖וֹ עִ֥יר דָּוִֽיד׃ David s’établit dans la forteresse, qu’on nomma pour cette raison Cité de David.

8 וַיִּ֤בֶן הָעִיר֙ מִסָּבִ֔יב מִן־הַמִּלּ֖וֹא וְעַד־הַסָּבִ֑יב וְיוֹאָ֕ב יְחַיֶּ֖ה אֶת־שְׁאָ֥ר הָעִֽיר׃ Il ajouta des constructions à la ronde, sur le pourtour du Millo. Quant à Joab, il restaura le reste de la ville.

9 וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ דָּוִ֖יד הָל֣וֹךְ וְגָד֑וֹל וַיהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃ {פ}
David alla grandissant de plus en plus, assisté par l’Éternel-Cebaot.

10 וְאֵ֨לֶּה רָאשֵׁ֤י הַגִּבֹּרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְדָוִ֔יד הַמִּתְחַזְּקִ֨ים עִמּ֧וֹ בְמַלְכוּת֛וֹ עִם־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְהַמְלִיכ֑וֹ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {ס} Voici les chefs des vaillants guerriers de David, qui l’aidèrent, avec tout Israël, à conquérir le trône et le firent régner selon la parole de l’Éternel, adressée à Israël.

11 וְאֵ֛לֶּה מִסְפַּ֥ר הַגִּבֹּרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְדָוִ֑יד יָֽשׇׁבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־חַכְמוֹנִ֗י רֹ֚אשׁ (השלושים) [הַשָּׁ֣לִישִׁ֔ים] הֽוּא־עוֹרֵ֧ר אֶת־חֲנִית֛וֹ עַל־שְׁלֹשׁ־מֵא֥וֹת חָלָ֖ל בְּפַ֥עַם אֶחָֽת׃ Et voici la liste des vaillants guerriers de David: Yachobam, fils de Hakhmoni, chef de la garde. C’est lui qui, en une seule rencontre, brandit la lance, faisant trois cents cadavres.

12 וְאַחֲרָ֛יו אֶלְעָזָ֥ר בֶּן־דּוֹד֖וֹ הָאֲחוֹחִ֑י ה֖וּא בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁ֥ה הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l’Ahohite, l’un des trois héros,

13 הֽוּא־הָיָ֨ה עִם־דָּוִ֜יד בַּפַּ֣ס דַּמִּ֗ים וְהַפְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ נֶאֶסְפוּ־שָׁ֣ם לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַתְּהִ֛י חֶלְקַ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה מְלֵאָ֣ה שְׂעוֹרִ֑ים וְהָעָ֥ם נָ֖סוּ מִפְּנֵ֥י פְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ assista David à Pass-Dammim. Là s’étaient assemblés les Philistins pour la bataille. Il s’y trouvait une pièce de terre pleine d’orge, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.

14 וַיִּֽתְיַצְּב֤וּ בְתוֹךְ־הַֽחֶלְקָה֙ וַיַּצִּיל֔וּהָ וַיַּכּ֖וּ אֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיּ֥וֹשַׁע יְהֹוָ֖ה תְּשׁוּעָ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה׃ Mais lui prit position au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins; le Seigneur opéra ainsi une grande délivrance.

15 וַיֵּרְד֡וּ שְֽׁלוֹשָׁה֩ מִן־הַשְּׁלוֹשִׁ֨ים רֹ֤אשׁ עַל־הַצֻּר֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔יד אֶל־מְעָרַ֖ת עֲדֻלָּ֑ם וּמַחֲנֵ֣ה פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים חֹנָ֖ה בְּעֵ֥מֶק רְפָאִֽים׃ Trois des trente chefs descendirent sur le roc auprès de David, du côté de la caverne d’Adoullam; un corps de Philistins se trouvait campé dans la vallée de Rephaïm.

16 וְדָוִ֖יד אָ֣ז בַּמְּצוּדָ֑ה וּנְצִ֣יב פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אָ֖ז בְּבֵ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ David était alors dans la forteresse, et les Philistins avaient une garnison à Bethléem.

17 וַיִּתְאָ֥ו דָּוִ֖יד וַיֹּאמַ֑ר מִ֚י יַשְׁקֵ֣נִי מַ֔יִם מִבּ֥וֹר בֵּֽית־לֶ֖חֶם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּשָּֽׁעַר׃ David eut un désir et dit: "Ah! si on pouvait me faire boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem!"

18 וַיִּבְקְע֨וּ הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֜ה בְּמַחֲנֵ֣ה פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וַיִּֽשְׁאֲבוּ־מַ֙יִם֙ מִבּ֤וֹר בֵּֽית־לֶ֙חֶם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשַּׁ֔עַר וַיִּשְׂא֖וּ וַיָּבִ֣אוּ אֶל־דָּוִ֑יד וְלֹא־אָבָ֤ה דָוִיד֙ לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֔ם וַיְנַסֵּ֥ךְ אֹתָ֖ם לַיהֹוָֽה׃ Les trois guerriers s’ouvrirent un passage par le camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l’eau à la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem et l’apportèrent à David; mais celui-ci ne voulut pas la boire et en fit une libation à l’Éternel,

19 וַיֹּ֡אמֶר חָלִ֩ילָה֩ לִּ֨י מֵאֱלֹהַ֜י מֵעֲשׂ֣וֹת זֹ֗את הֲדַ֣ם הָאֲנָשִׁים֩ הָאֵ֨לֶּה אֶשְׁתֶּ֤ה בְנַפְשׁוֹתָם֙ כִּ֣י בְנַפְשׁוֹתָ֣ם הֱבִיא֔וּם וְלֹ֥א אָבָ֖ה לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֑ם אֵ֣לֶּה עָשׂ֔וּ שְׁלֹ֖שֶׁת הַגִּבּוֹרִֽים׃ en disant: "Mon Dieu me préserve de faire pareille chose! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes qui ont risqué leur vie, car ils l’ont apportée au péril de leur vie!" Il refusa donc de boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois guerriers.

20 וְאַבְשַׁ֣י אֲחִֽי־יוֹאָ֗ב ה֤וּא הָיָה֙ רֹ֣אשׁ הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁ֔ה וְהוּא֙ עוֹרֵ֣ר אֶת־חֲנִית֔וֹ עַל־שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת חָלָ֑ל (ולא) [וְלוֹ־]שֵׁ֖ם בַּשְּׁלוֹשָֽׁה׃ Puis Abchaï, frère de Joab, le chef des trois: il brandit un jour sa lance sur trois cents ennemis qu’il immola, et se fit un nom parmi les Trois.

21 מִן־הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁ֤ה בַשְּׁנַ֙יִם֙ נִכְבָּ֔ד וַיְהִ֥י לָהֶ֖ם לְשָׂ֑ר וְעַד־הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁ֖ה לֹא־בָֽא׃ {ס} Il fut plus estimé que les Trente, de la deuxième série, car il devint leur chef, cependant il n’arriva pas jusqu’aux Trois.

22 בְּנָיָ֨ה בֶן־יְהוֹיָדָ֧ע בֶּן־אִֽישׁ־חַ֛יִל רַב־פְּעָלִ֖ים מִֽן־קַבְצְאֵ֑ל ה֣וּא הִכָּ֗ה אֵ֣ת שְׁנֵ֤י אֲרִיאֵל֙ מוֹאָ֔ב וְ֠ה֠וּא יָרַ֞ד וְהִכָּ֧ה אֶֽת־הָאֲרִ֛י בְּת֥וֹךְ הַבּ֖וֹר בְּי֥וֹם הַשָּֽׁלֶג׃ Puis Benaïa, fils de Joïada, d’un vaillant aux nombreux exploits, originaire de Kabceël; ce fut lui qui triompha des deux Arïel de Moab; ce fut lui aussi qui descendit et tua un lion dans une fosse par un jour de neige.

23 וְהֽוּא־הִכָּה֩ אֶת־הָאִ֨ישׁ הַמִּצְרִ֜י אִ֥ישׁ מִדָּ֣ה ׀ חָמֵ֣שׁ בָּאַמָּ֗ה וּבְיַ֨ד הַמִּצְרִ֤י חֲנִית֙ כִּמְנ֣וֹר אֹֽרְגִ֔ים וַיֵּ֥רֶד אֵלָ֖יו בַּשָּׁ֑בֶט וַיִּגְזֹ֤ל אֶֽת־הַחֲנִית֙ מִיַּ֣ד הַמִּצְרִ֔י וַיַּהַרְגֵ֖הוּ בַּחֲנִיתֽוֹ׃ Il tua aussi un Égyptien, homme de grande taille, haut de cinq coudées, et, dans la main de l’Égyptien, il y avait une lance, grande comme une ensouple de tisserand; il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, arracha la lance de la main de l’Égyptien et le tua avec sa lance.

24 אֵ֣לֶּה עָשָׂ֔ה בְּנָיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָ֑ע וְלוֹ־שֵׁ֖ם בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁ֥ה הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ Voilà ce que fit Benaïahou, fils de Joïada, renommé parmi les trois héros.

25 מִן־הַשְּׁלוֹשִׁ֗ים הִנּ֤וֹ נִכְבָּד֙ ה֔וּא וְאֶל־הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֖ה לֹא־בָ֑א וַיְשִׂימֵ֥הוּ דָוִ֖יד עַל־מִשְׁמַעְתּֽוֹ׃ {ס} Il fut plus estimé que les Trente, mais il n’arriva pas jusqu’aux Trois. David l’admit dans son conseil.

26 וְגִבּוֹרֵ֖י הַחֲיָלִ֑ים עֲשָׂהאֵל֙ אֲחִ֣י יוֹאָ֔ב {ס} אֶלְחָנָ֥ן בֶּן־דּוֹד֖וֹ מִבֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ {ס} Puis d’autres héroïques guerriers: Assahel, frère de Joab; Elhanân, fils de Dodo, de Bethléem;

27 שַׁמּוֹת֙ הַהֲרוֹרִ֔י {ס} חֶ֖לֶץ הַפְּלוֹנִֽי׃ {ס} Chammot, le Harorite, Hêleç, le Pelonite;

28 עִירָ֤א בֶן־עִקֵּשׁ֙ הַתְּקוֹעִ֔י {ס} אֲבִיעֶ֖זֶר הָעַנְּתוֹתִֽי׃ {ס} Ira, fils d’Ikkech, de Tekoa; Abiézer, d’Anatot;

29 סִבְּכַי֙ הַחֻ֣שָׁתִ֔י {ס} עִילַ֖י הָאֲחוֹחִֽי׃ {ס} Sibbekhaï, le Houchatite; Ilaï, l’Ahohite;

30 מַהְרַי֙ הַנְּטֹ֣פָתִ֔י {ס} חֵ֥לֶד בֶּֽן־בַּעֲנָ֖ה הַנְּטוֹפָתִֽי׃ {ס} Maharaï, de Netofa; Hêled, fils de Baana, de Netofa;

31 אִיתַ֣י בֶּן־רִיבַ֗י מִגִּבְעַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן {ס} בְּנָיָ֖ה הַפִּרְעָתֹנִֽי׃ {ס} Itaï, fils de Ribaï, de Ghibea des Benjaminites; Benaïa, de Piratôn

32 חוּרַי֙ מִנַּ֣חֲלֵי גָ֔עַשׁ {ס} אֲבִיאֵ֖ל הָעַרְבָתִֽי׃ {ס} Houraï, de Nahalê-Gaach; Abiël, l’Arbatite;

33 עַזְמָ֙וֶת֙ הַבַּ֣חֲרוּמִ֔י {ס} אֶלְיַחְבָּ֖א הַשַּׁעַלְבֹנִֽי׃ {ס} Azmaveth, le Baharoumite; Elyahba, le Chaalbonite;

34 בְּנֵ֗י הָשֵׁם֙ הַגִּ֣זוֹנִ֔י {ס} יוֹנָתָ֥ן בֶּן־שָׁגֵ֖ה הַהֲרָרִֽי׃ {ס} des fils de Hachêm le Ghizonite; Jonathan, fils de Chaghê, le Hararite;

35 אֲחִיאָ֧ם בֶּן־שָׂכָ֛ר הַהֲרָרִ֖י {ס} אֱלִיפַ֥ל בֶּן־אֽוּר׃ {ס} Ahïâm, fils de Sakhar, le Hararite; Elifal, fils d’Our;

36 חֵ֚פֶר הַמְּכֵ֣רָתִ֔י אֲחִיָּ֖ה הַפְּלֹנִֽי׃ {ס} Hêfer, le Mekhératite; Ahiya, le Pelonite;

37 חֶצְרוֹ֙ הַֽכַּרְמְלִ֔י {ס} נַעֲרַ֖י בֶּן־אֶזְבָּֽי׃ {ס} Heçro, le Carmélite; Naaraï, fils d’Ezbaï;

38 יוֹאֵל֙ אֲחִ֣י נָתָ֔ן {ס} מִבְחָ֖ר בֶּן־הַגְרִֽי׃ {ס} Joël, frère de Nathan; Mibhar, fils du Hagrite;

39 צֶ֖לֶק הָעַמּוֹנִ֑י נַחְרַי֙ הַבֵּ֣רֹתִ֔י נֹשֵׂ֕א כְּלֵ֖י יוֹאָ֥ב בֶּן־צְרוּיָֽה׃ {ס} Célek, l’Ammonite; Nahraï, le Bêrotite, écuyer de Joab, fils de Cerouya;

40 עִירָא֙ הַיִּתְרִ֔י {ס} גָּרֵ֖ב הַיִּתְרִֽי׃ {ס} Ira, le Yithrite; Garêb, le Yithrite;

41 אֽוּרִיָּה֙ הַחִתִּ֔י {ס} זָבָ֖ד בֶּן־אַחְלָֽי׃ {ס} Urie, le Héthéen; Zabad, fils d’Ahlaï;

42 עֲדִינָ֨א בֶן־שִׁיזָ֜א הָראוּבֵנִ֗י רֹ֛אשׁ לָראוּבֵנִ֖י וְעָלָ֥יו שְׁלֹשִֽׁים׃ {ס} Adina, fils de Chiza, le Rubénite, chef rubénite, commandant à trente;

43 חָנָן֙ בֶּֽן־מַעֲכָ֔ה וְיוֹשָׁפָ֖ט הַמִּתְנִֽי׃ {ס} Hanân, fils de Maakha; Josaphat, le Mitnite;

44 עֻזִּיָּ֖א הָעַשְׁתְּרָתִ֑י {ס} שָׁמָע֙ (ויעואל) [וִיעִיאֵ֔ל] בְּנֵ֖י חוֹתָ֥ם הָעֲרֹעֵרִֽי׃ {ס} Ouzzia, l’Achteratite; Chama et Yeïêl, fils de Hotam, d’Aroër;

45 יְדִֽיעֲאֵל֙ בֶּן־שִׁמְרִ֔י וְיֹחָ֥א אָחִ֖יו הַתִּיצִֽי׃ {ס} Yedïaêl, fils de Chimri; Yoha, son frère, le Tiçite;

46 אֱלִיאֵל֙ הַֽמַּחֲוִ֔ים וִירִיבַ֥י וְיוֹשַׁוְיָ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י אֶלְנָ֑עַם {ס} וְיִתְמָ֖ה הַמּוֹאָבִֽי׃ Eliël, de Mahavïm; Yeribaï et Yochavia, fils d’Elnaam; Yitma, le Moabite;

47 אֱלִיאֵ֣ל וְעוֹבֵ֔ד {ס} וְיַעֲשִׂיאֵ֖ל הַמְּצֹבָיָֽה׃ {פ}

And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come here” He does not explain here why, but in Samuel (II 5:6), Scripture explains: “... and they said to David, saying: You shall not come here unless you remove the blind and the lame.” They saw that they were unable to withstand David. They therefore stationed blind and lame persons before the city gate, “as if to say: David shall not come here,” unless he wages war with these blind people, for they knew that it is disgraceful for a king to wage war against blind men, and because of this, he would turn back and not wage war with them. ויאמרו יושבי יבוס לדוד לא תבוא הנה. כבר באר בספר שמואל (ב' ה' הו' וגו') שהסבה בזה היא שאם לא יסיר את העורים ואת הפסחים לא יוכל לבוא שם וכבר בארנו בבאורנו לספר שמואל הסבה בזה שכבר היו שם תמונות עורים ופסחים עם דמות מקלות גדולים מברזל בידם והמים העוברים בצנור מניעים המקלות ההם תמיד באופן שלא יוכל להכנס אדם שם. ולזה היה הדרך בהשבתתם הנגיעה בצנור אשר באים בו המים להניע זאת התנועה והנה קצר בספר שמואל מלהזכיר מה יתן דוד לכל מכה יבוסי בראשונה ויגע בצנור. ובזה המקום באר שהוא יהיה לראש ולשר ושכבר עלה בראשונה יואב להכות היבוסי. ולזה היה לראש. ר"ל שהיה שר צבא:
