1 וַיַּבְדֵּ֣ל דָּוִיד֩ וְשָׂרֵ֨י הַצָּבָ֜א לַעֲבֹדָ֗ה לִבְנֵ֤י אָסָף֙ וְהֵימָ֣ן וִידוּת֔וּן (הנביאים) [הַֽנִּבְּאִ֛ים] בְּכִנֹּר֥וֹת בִּנְבָלִ֖ים וּבִמְצִלְתָּ֑יִם וַֽיְהִי֙ מִסְפָּרָ֔ם אַנְשֵׁ֥י מְלָאכָ֖ה לַעֲבֹדָתָֽם׃ David, avec les chefs de l’armée, assigna une place à part, dans le service du culte, aux fils d’Assaph, de Hêman et de Yedouthoun, qui pratiquaient l’art de la harpe, du luth et des cymbales. Suit le dénombrement de ces artistes exécutants, d’après la nature de leur emploi:

2 לִבְנֵ֣י אָסָ֗ף זַכּ֧וּר וְיוֹסֵ֛ף וּנְתַנְיָ֥ה וַאֲשַׂרְאֵ֖לָה בְּנֵ֣י אָסָ֑ף עַ֚ל יַד־אָסָ֔ף הַנִּבָּ֖א עַל־יְדֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ Pour les fils d’Assaph, c’étaient Zaccour, Joseph, Netania et Acharèla; ces fils d’Assaph étaient dirigés par Assaph lui-même, qui officiait sous le contrôle du roi.

3 לִידוּת֑וּן בְּנֵ֣י יְדוּת֡וּן גְּדַלְיָ֡הוּ וּצְרִ֡י וִ֠ישַׁעְיָ֠הוּ חֲשַׁבְיָ֨הוּ וּמַתִּתְיָ֜הוּ שִׁשָּׁ֗ה עַל֩ יְדֵ֨י אֲבִיהֶ֤ם יְדוּתוּן֙ בַּכִּנּ֔וֹר הַנִּבָּ֕א עַל־הֹד֥וֹת וְהַלֵּ֖ל לַיהֹוָֽה׃ {ס} Pour Yedouthoun: les fils de Yedouthoun, Ghedaliahou, Ceri, Isaïe, Hachabiahou, Mattitiahou [et Chimeï], au nombre de six, sous la direction de leur père Yedouthoun, qui était chargé de louer et de célébrer l’Éternel au son de la harpe.

4 לְהֵימָ֑ן בְּנֵ֣י הֵימָ֡ן בֻּקִּיָּ֡הוּ מַתַּנְיָ֡הוּ עֻ֠זִּיאֵ֠ל שְׁבוּאֵ֨ל וִירִימ֜וֹת חֲנַנְיָ֣ה חֲנָ֗נִי אֱלִיאָ֤תָה גִדַּ֙לְתִּי֙ וְרֹמַ֣מְתִּי עֶ֔זֶר יׇשְׁבְּקָ֣שָׁה מַלּ֔וֹתִי הוֹתִ֖יר מַחֲזִיאֹֽת׃ Pour Hêman: les fils de Hêman, Boukkiyahou, Mattaniahou, Ouzziël, Chebouël, Yerimot, Hanania, Hanani, Elîata, Ghiddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Yochbekacha, Malloti, Hotir, Mahaziot.

5 כׇּל־אֵ֨לֶּה בָנִ֜ים לְהֵימָ֗ן חֹזֵ֥ה הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ בְּדִבְרֵ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים לְהָרִ֣ים קָ֑רֶן וַיִּתֵּ֨ן הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לְהֵימָ֗ן בָּנִ֛ים אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר וּבָנ֥וֹת שָׁלֽוֹשׁ׃ Tous ceux-ci étaient fils de Hêman, voyant du roi, [chargé], dans le service divin, de sonner de la corne. Dieu avait donné à Hêman quatorze fils et trois filles.

6 כׇּל־אֵ֣לֶּה עַל־יְדֵי֩ אֲבִיהֶ֨ם בַּשִּׁ֜יר בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֗ה בִּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ נְבָלִ֣ים וְכִנֹּר֔וֹת לַעֲבֹדַ֖ת בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים עַ֚ל יְדֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אָסָ֥ף וִידוּת֖וּן וְהֵימָֽן׃ Tous avaient mission de participer, sous la direction de leur père, aux cantiques du temple de l’Éternel, en accompagnant de cymbales, de luths et de harpes le service de la maison de Dieu, suivant les instructions du roi à Assaph, Yedouthoun et Hêman.

7 וַיְהִ֤י מִסְפָּרָם֙ עִם־אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם מְלֻמְּדֵי־שִׁ֖יר לַיהֹוָ֑ה כׇּ֨ל־הַמֵּבִ֔ין מָאתַ֖יִם שְׁמוֹנִ֥ים וּשְׁמוֹנָֽה׃ Ils s’élevaient au nombre de deux cent quatre-vingt-huit, en comptant avec eux leurs frères exercés aux cantiques du Seigneur, tous ceux qui étaient passés maîtres.

8 וַיַּפִּ֜ילוּ גּוֹרָל֣וֹת מִשְׁמֶ֗רֶת לְעֻמַּת֙ כַּקָּטֹ֣ן כַּגָּד֔וֹל מֵבִ֖ין עִם־תַּלְמִֽיד׃ {פ}
On répartit par le sort leurs sections, en y comprenant également petits et grands, maîtres et apprentis.

9 וַיֵּצֵ֞א הַגּוֹרָ֧ל הָרִאשׁ֛וֹן לְאָסָ֖ף לְיוֹסֵ֑ף {ס} גְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י הֽוּא־וְאֶחָ֥יו וּבָנָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le sort désigna en premier la famille d’Assaph en la personne de Joseph. Ghedaliahou fut le second: lui, ses frères et ses fils étaient ensemble douze.

10 הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֣י זַכּ֔וּר בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le troisième fut Zaccour; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

11 הָֽרְבִיעִי֙ לַיִּצְרִ֔י בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le quatrième fut Yiçri, avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

12 הַחֲמִישִׁ֣י נְתַנְיָ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le cinquième fut Netaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

13 הַשִּׁשִּׁ֣י בֻקִּיָּ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le sixième fut Boukkiyahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

14 הַשְּׁבִעִ֣י יְשַׂרְאֵ֔לָה בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le septième fut Yessarèla; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

15 הַשְּׁמִינִ֣י יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le huitième fut Isaïe; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

16 הַתְּשִׁיעִ֣י מַתַּנְיָ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le neuvième fut Mattaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

17 הָעֲשִׂירִ֣י שִׁמְעִ֔י בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le dixième fut Chimeï; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

18 עַשְׁתֵּי־עָשָׂ֣ר עֲזַרְאֵ֔ל בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le onzième fut Azarêl; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

19 הַשְּׁנֵ֤ים עָשָׂר֙ לַֽחֲשַׁבְיָ֔ה בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le douzième fut Hachabia; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

20 לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ שֽׁוּבָאֵ֔ל בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le treizième fut Choubaël; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

21 לְאַרְבָּעָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ מַתִּתְיָ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le quatorzième fut Mattitiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

22 לַחֲמִשָּׁ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ לִירֵמ֔וֹת בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le quinzième fut Yerêmot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

23 לְשִׁשָּׁ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ לַחֲנַנְיָ֔הוּ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le seizième fut Hananiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

24 לְשִׁבְעָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ לְיׇשְׁבְּקָ֔שָׁה בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le dix-septième fut Yochbekacha; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

25 לִשְׁמוֹנָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ לַחֲנָ֔נִי בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le dix-huitième fut Hanani; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

26 לְתִשְׁעָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ לְמַלּ֔וֹתִי בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le dix-neuvième fut Malloti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

27 לְעֶשְׂרִים֙ לֶאֱלִיָּ֔תָה בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le vingtième fut Eliyata; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

28 לְאֶחָ֤ד וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ לְהוֹתִ֔יר בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le vingt-unième fut Hotir; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

29 לִשְׁנַ֤יִם וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ לְגִדַּ֔לְתִּי בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le vingt-deuxième fut Ghiddalti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

30 לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ לְמַ֣חֲזִיא֔וֹת בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס} Le vingt-troisième fut Mahaziot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

31 לְאַרְבָּעָ֤ה וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ לְרוֹמַ֣מְתִּי עָ֔זֶר בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶחָ֖יו שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {פ}
Le vingt-quatrième fut Romamti-Ezer; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

And the first lot of Asaph came out to Joseph his first son.

Gedaliah the second Gedaliah was the firstborn of Jeduthun.

he and his brethren and his sons, twelve The meaning is that for every watch twelve Levites would come, for all of them equalled two hundred and eighty-eight, and if you divide them into twenty-four parts, each part will consist of twelve Levites. So it appears to me. And this is the meaning of “and his brethren and his sons”: referring to Joseph and to Gedaliah. And since they are both mentioned in one verse, he wrote only once, “he and his sons and his brethren.” And not every “his brethren,” and “their brethren” in this context mean his actual brothers; but he calls one group brethren (in German, Bruderschaft).
