1 בְּנֵ֖י יְהוּדָ֑ה פֶּ֧רֶץ חֶצְר֛וֹן וְכַרְמִ֖י וְח֥וּר וְשׁוֹבָֽל׃ Descendants de Juda: Héçron, Karmi, Hour et Chobal.

2 וּרְאָיָ֤ה בֶן־שׁוֹבָל֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־יַ֔חַת וְיַ֣חַת הֹלִ֔יד אֶת־אֲחוּמַ֖י וְאֶת־לָ֑הַד אֵ֖לֶּה מִשְׁפְּח֥וֹת הַצָּֽרְעָתִֽי׃ {ס} Reaïa, fils de Chobal, engendra Yahat; celui-ci, Ahoumaï et Lahad. Telles étaient les familles des Çoratiens.

3 וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ אֲבִ֣י עֵיטָ֔ם יִזְרְעֶ֥אל וְיִשְׁמָ֖א וְיִדְבָּ֑שׁ וְשֵׁ֥ם אֲחוֹתָ֖ם הַצְלֶלְפּֽוֹנִי׃ Ceux-ci fondèrent Etham, Jezreël, Yichma et Yidbach; leur sœur s’appelait Hacelélponi.

4 וּפְנוּאֵל֙ אֲבִ֣י גְדֹ֔ר וְעֵ֖זֶר אֲבִ֣י חוּשָׁ֑ה אֵ֤לֶּה בְנֵי־חוּר֙ בְּכ֣וֹר אֶפְרָ֔תָה אֲבִ֖י בֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ Penouêl fut le père de Ghedor, Ezer, de Houcha. Tels furent les descendants de Hour, le premier-né d’Ephrata, le père de Bethléem.

5 וּלְאַשְׁחוּר֙ אֲבִ֣י תְק֔וֹעַ הָי֖וּ שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשִׁ֑ים חֶלְאָ֖ה וְנַעֲרָֽה׃ Achhour, père de Tekoa, eut deux femmes: Hélea et Naara.

6 וַתֵּ֨לֶד ל֤וֹ נַֽעֲרָה֙ אֶת־אֲחֻזָּ֣ם וְאֶת־חֵ֔פֶר וְאֶת־תֵּֽימְנִ֖י וְאֶת־הָאֲחַשְׁתָּרִ֑י אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י נַעֲרָֽה׃ Naara lui enfanta Ahouzzam, Héfer, Tèmeni et l’Ahachtarien. Tels furent les fils de Naara.

7 וּבְנֵ֖י חֶלְאָ֑ה צֶ֥רֶת (יצחר) [וְצֹ֖חַר] וְאֶתְנָֽן׃ Ceux de Hélea furent: Céreth, Çohar et Etnân.

8 וְק֣וֹץ הוֹלִ֔יד אֶת־עָנ֖וּב וְאֶת־הַצֹּבֵבָ֑ה וּמִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת אֲחַרְחֵ֖ל בֶּן־הָרֽוּם׃ Koç engendra Anoub, Haçobêba, et les familles d’Aharhêl, fils de Haroum…

9 וַיְהִ֣י יַעְבֵּ֔ץ נִכְבָּ֖ד מֵאֶחָ֑יו וְאִמּ֗וֹ קָרְאָ֨ה שְׁמ֤וֹ יַעְבֵּץ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כִּ֥י יָלַ֖דְתִּי בְּעֹֽצֶב׃ Yabêç était le plus considéré de ses frères. C’était sa mère qui lui avait donné le nom de Yabêç, en disant: "Certes, j’ai enfanté avec douleur."

10 וַיִּקְרָ֣א יַ֠עְבֵּ֠ץ לֵאלֹהֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל לֵאמֹ֗ר אִם־בָּרֵ֨ךְ תְּבָרְכֵ֜נִי וְהִרְבִּ֤יתָ אֶת־גְּבוּלִי֙ וְהָיְתָ֤ה יָדְךָ֙ עִמִּ֔י וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ מֵּרָעָ֖ה לְבִלְתִּ֣י עׇצְבִּ֑י וַיָּבֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־שָׁאָֽל׃ {ס} Yabêç adressa au Dieu d’Israël cette supplique: "Si tu daignes me bénir, accroître mon territoire, et que ta main soit avec moi, que tu me gardes du mal pour m’éviter la douleur..." Et Dieu lui accorda ce qu’il avait demandé.

11 וּכְל֥וּב אֲחִי־שׁוּחָ֖ה הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־מְחִ֑יר ה֖וּא אֲבִ֥י אֶשְׁתּֽוֹן׃ Keloub, frère de Chouha, engendra Mehir, qui fut le père d’Echtôn.

12 וְאֶשְׁתּ֗וֹן הוֹלִ֞יד אֶת־בֵּ֤ית רָפָא֙ וְאֶת־פָּסֵ֔חַ וְאֶת־תְּחִנָּ֖ה אֲבִ֣י עִ֣יר נָחָ֑שׁ אֵ֖לֶּה אַנְשֵׁ֥י רֵכָֽה׃ {ס} Echtôn engendra Beth-Rafa, Passéêah et Tehinna, le père de la ville de Nahach. C’étaient là les gens de Rêkha.

13 וּבְנֵ֣י קְנַ֔ז עׇתְנִיאֵ֖ל וּשְׂרָיָ֑ה וּבְנֵ֥י עׇתְנִיאֵ֖ל חֲתַֽת׃ Kenaz eut pour fils Othoniel et Seraïa. Les fils d’Othoniel furent Hatath…

14 וּמְעוֹנֹתַ֖י הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־עׇפְרָ֑ה וּשְׂרָיָ֗ה הוֹלִ֤יד אֶת־יוֹאָב֙ אֲבִי֙ גֵּ֣יא חֲרָשִׁ֔ים כִּ֥י חֲרָשִׁ֖ים הָיֽוּ׃ {פ}
Meonotaï engendra Ofra, et Seraïa Joab, le père de la "Vallée des Artisans", car c’étaient des artisans.

15 וּבְנֵי֙ כָּלֵ֣ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֔ה עִ֥ירוּ אֵלָ֖ה וָנָ֑עַם וּבְנֵ֥י אֵלָ֖ה וּקְנַֽז׃ Les fils de Caleb, fils de Yefounné, furent: Irou, Ela et Naam; les fils d’Ela… et Kenaz.

16 וּבְנֵ֖י יְהַלֶּלְאֵ֑ל זִ֣יף וְזִיפָ֔ה תִּירְיָ֖א וַאֲשַׂרְאֵֽל׃ Les fils de Yehallèlêl: Zif, Zifa, Tiria et Assarêl.

17 וּבֶ֨ן־עֶזְרָ֔ה יֶ֥תֶר וּמֶ֖רֶד וְעֵ֣פֶר וְיָל֑וֹן וַתַּ֙הַר֙ אֶת־מִרְיָ֣ם וְאֶת־שַׁמַּ֔י וְאֶת־יִשְׁבָּ֖ח אֲבִ֥י אֶשְׁתְּמֹֽעַ׃ Le[s] fils d’Ezra: Yeter, Méred, Efer et Yalôn. Et elle conçut [et enfanta] Miriam, Chammaï et Yichbah, père d’Echtemoa.

18 וְאִשְׁתּ֣וֹ הַיְהֻֽדִיָּ֗ה יָלְדָ֞ה אֶת־יֶ֨רֶד אֲבִ֤י גְדוֹר֙ וְאֶת־חֶ֙בֶר֙ אֲבִ֣י שׂוֹכ֔וֹ וְאֶת־יְקוּתִיאֵ֖ל אֲבִ֣י זָנ֑וֹחַ וְאֵ֗לֶּה בְּנֵי֙ בִּתְיָ֣ה בַת־פַּרְעֹ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקַ֖ח מָֽרֶד׃ {ס} Sa femme, la Judéenne, enfanta Yéred, père de Ghedor, Héber, père de Sokho, Yekoutiël, père de Zanoah. Ceux-là, furent les enfants de Bitia, fille de Pharaon, qu’avait épousée Méred.

19 וּבְנֵי֙ אֵ֣שֶׁת הֽוֹדִיָּ֔ה אֲח֣וֹת נַ֔חַם אֲבִ֥י קְעִילָ֖ה הַגַּרְמִ֑י וְאֶשְׁתְּמֹ֖עַ הַמַּעֲכָתִֽי׃ Les fils de la femme de Hodia, sœur de Naham, furent le "père" de Keïla, le Garmien, et d’Echtemoa, le Maakhatien.

20 וּבְנֵ֣י שִׁימ֔וֹן אַמְנ֣וֹן וְרִנָּ֔ה בֶּן־חָנָ֖ן (ותולון) [וְתִיל֑וֹן] וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׁעִ֔י זוֹחֵ֖ת וּבֶן־זוֹחֵֽת׃ Les fils de Chimôn furent Amnôn et Rinna, Ben-Hanân et Tilôn; les fils de Yichi: Zohêth et Ben-Zohéth.

21 בְּנֵי֙ שֵׁלָ֣ה בֶן־יְהוּדָ֔ה עֵ֚ר אֲבִ֣י לֵכָ֔ה וְלַעְדָּ֖ה אֲבִ֣י מָרֵשָׁ֑ה וּמִשְׁפְּח֛וֹת בֵּית־עֲבֹדַ֥ת הַבֻּ֖ץ לְבֵ֥ית אַשְׁבֵּֽעַ׃ Les fils de Chêla, fils de Juda, furent Er, "père" de Lêkha, Lada, "père" de Marêcha, et les familles de la maison du travail de byssus, de la maison d’Achbêa;

22 וְיוֹקִ֞ים וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י כֹזֵבָ֗א וְיוֹאָ֧שׁ וְשָׂרָ֛ף אֲשֶׁר־בָּעֲל֥וּ לְמוֹאָ֖ב וְיָשֻׁ֣בִי לָ֑חֶם וְהַדְּבָרִ֖ים עַתִּיקִֽים׃ en outre, Yokim, les gens de Kozêba, Yoach et Saraf, qui dominèrent sur Moab, et Yachoubi-Léhem. Ce sont là choses anciennes.

23 הֵ֚מָּה הַיּ֣וֹצְרִ֔ים וְיֹשְׁבֵ֥י נְטָעִ֖ים וּגְדֵרָ֑ה עִם־הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ בִּמְלַאכְתּ֖וֹ יָ֥שְׁבוּ שָֽׁם׃ {ס} C’étaient les potiers et les habitants des plantations et des parcs. Ils y demeuraient pour être plus près du roi en vue de son service.

24 בְּנֵ֖י שִׁמְע֑וֹן נְמוּאֵ֣ל וְיָמִ֔ין יָרִ֖יב זֶ֥רַח שָׁאֽוּל׃ Les fils de Siméon furent: Nemouêl, Yamîn, Yarib, Zérah, Chaoul.

25 שַׁלֻּ֥ם בְּנ֛וֹ מִבְשָׂ֥ם בְּנ֖וֹ מִשְׁמָ֥ע בְּנֽוֹ׃ Celui-ci eut pour fils Challoum, celui-ci Mibsam, celui-ci Michma.

26 וּבְנֵ֖י מִשְׁמָ֑ע חַמּוּאֵ֥ל בְּנ֛וֹ זַכּ֥וּר בְּנ֖וֹ שִׁמְעִ֥י בְנֽוֹ׃ Les descendants de Michma furent Hammouêl, qui eut pour fils Zakkour, celui-ci Chimeï.

27 וּלְשִׁמְעִ֞י בָּנִ֨ים שִׁשָּׁ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ וּבָנ֣וֹת שֵׁ֔שׁ וּלְאֶחָ֕יו אֵ֖ין בָּנִ֣ים רַבִּ֑ים וְכֹל֙ מִשְׁפַּחְתָּ֔ם לֹ֥א הִרְבּ֖וּ עַד־בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃ {ס} Chimeï eut seize fils et six filles, tandis que ses frères n’eurent pas beaucoup d’enfants; toutes leurs familles n’atteignirent pas le nombre des descendants de Juda.

28 וַיֵּ֥שְׁב֛וּ בִּבְאֵֽר־שֶׁ֥בַע וּמוֹלָדָ֖ה וַחֲצַ֥ר שׁוּעָֽל׃ Ils habitèrent Bersabée, Molada, Haçar-Choual,

29 וּבְבִלְהָ֥ה וּבְעֶ֖צֶם וּבְתוֹלָֽד׃ Bilha, Ecem, Tolad,

30 וּבִבְתוּאֵ֥ל וּבְחׇרְמָ֖ה וּבְצִֽיקְלָֽג׃ Betouêl, Horma, Ciklag,

31 וּבְבֵ֤ית מַרְכָּבוֹת֙ וּבַחֲצַ֣ר סוּסִ֔ים וּבְבֵ֥ית בִּרְאִ֖י וּֽבְשַׁעֲרָ֑יִם אֵ֥לֶּה עָרֵיהֶ֖ם עַד־מְלֹ֥ךְ דָּוִֽיד׃ Beth-Marcabot, Haçar-Soussim, Beth-Bireï et Chaaraïm. Telles furent leurs villes jusqu’à l’avènement de David.

32 וְחַצְרֵיהֶם֙ עֵיטָ֣ם וָעַ֔יִן רִמּ֥וֹן וְתֹ֖כֶן וְעָשָׁ֑ן עָרִ֖ים חָמֵֽשׁ׃ Ils eurent pour dépendances Etam, Ayîn, Rimmôn, Tokhén et Achàn, soit cinq villes,

33 וְכׇל־חַצְרֵיהֶ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֧ר סְבִיב֛וֹת הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה עַד־בָּ֑עַל {ס} זֹ֚את מֽוֹשְׁבֹתָ֔ם וְהִתְיַחְשָׂ֖ם לָהֶֽם׃ et toutes les campagnes, aux environs de ces villes, jusqu’à Baal. Telles furent leurs résidences et leur filiation par familles.

34 וּמְשׁוֹבָ֣ב וְיַמְלֵ֔ךְ וְיוֹשָׁ֖ה בֶּן־אֲמַצְיָֽה׃ Quand à Mechobab, Yamlêkh, Yocha, fils d’Amacia,

35 וְיוֹאֵ֑ל וְיֵהוּא֙ בֶּן־י֣וֹשִׁבְיָ֔ה בֶּן־שְׂרָיָ֖ה בֶּן־עֲשִׂיאֵֽל׃ Joël, Yêhou, fils de Yochibia, fils de Seraïa, fils d’Assiël,

36 וְאֶלְיוֹעֵינַ֡י וְֽיַעֲקֹ֡בָה וִ֠ישׁוֹחָיָ֠ה וַעֲשָׂיָ֧ה וַעֲדִיאֵ֛ל וִישִׂימִאֵ֖ל וּבְנָיָֽה׃ Elyoênaï, Yaakoba, Yechohaïa, Assaïa, Adiêl, Yessimiêl, Benaïa,

37 וְזִיזָ֨א בֶן־שִׁפְעִ֧י בֶן־אַלּ֛וֹן בֶּן־יְדָיָ֥ה בֶן־שִׁמְרִ֖י בֶּן־שְׁמַֽעְיָֽה׃ et Ziza, fils de Chifeï, fils d’Allôn, fils de Yedaïa, fils de Chimri, fils de Chemaïa,

38 אֵ֚לֶּה הַבָּאִ֣ים בְּשֵׁמ֔וֹת נְשִׂיאִ֖ים בְּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָ֑ם וּבֵית֙ אֲב֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔ם פָּרְצ֖וּ לָרֽוֹב׃ ceux-là, qui sont désignés nominativement, et qui étaient princes dans leurs familles, leurs lignées paternelles débordèrent beaucoup

39 וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ לִמְב֣וֹא גְדֹ֔ר עַ֖ד לְמִזְרַ֣ח הַגָּ֑יְא לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ מִרְעֶ֖ה לְצֹאנָֽם׃ et allèrent jusqu’à l’entrée de Ghedor, à l’est de la vallée, afin d’y chercher des pâturages pour leurs troupeaux.

40 וַֽיִּמְצְא֤וּ מִרְעֶה֙ שָׁמֵ֣ן וָט֔וֹב וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ רַחֲבַ֣ת יָדַ֔יִם וְשֹׁקֶ֖טֶת וּשְׁלֵוָ֑ה כִּ֣י מִן־חָ֔ם הַיֹּשְׁבִ֥ים שָׁ֖ם לְפָנִֽים׃ Ils y trouvèrent des pâturages gras et bons et un pays vaste, tranquille et pacifique, car ceux qui y habitaient auparavant étaient des descendants de Cham.

41 וַיָּבֹ֡אוּ אֵ֩לֶּה֩ הַכְּתוּבִ֨ים בְּשֵׁמ֜וֹת בִּימֵ֣י ׀ יְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֗ה וַיַּכּ֨וּ אֶת־אׇהֳלֵיהֶ֜ם וְאֶת־[הַמְּעוּנִ֨ים] (המעינים) אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִמְצְאֽוּ־שָׁ֙מָּה֙ וַיַּֽחֲרִימֻם֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ תַּחְתֵּיהֶ֑ם כִּי־מִרְעֶ֥ה לְצֹאנָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃ Ceux donc qui ont été désignés par leurs noms vinrent à l’époque d’Ezéchias, roi de Juda; ils détruisirent leurs tentes et les habitations qui s’y trouvaient et ils les vouèrent à l’interdit, ce qui se voit encore aujourd’hui; puis ils s’y établirent à leur place, car ils avaient là des pâturages pour leurs troupeaux.

42 וּמֵהֶ֣ם ׀ מִן־בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֗וֹן הָֽלְכוּ֙ לְהַ֣ר שֵׂעִ֔יר אֲנָשִׁ֖ים חֲמֵ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹת וּפְלַטְיָ֡ה וּ֠נְעַרְיָ֠ה וּרְפָיָ֧ה וְעֻזִּיאֵ֛ל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׁעִ֖י בְּרֹאשָֽׁם׃ D’entre eux, c’est-à-dire des descendants de Siméon, cinq cents hommes allèrent se fixer sur la montagne de Séïr. Ils avaient à leur tête Pelatia, Nearia, Refaïa et Ouzziël, fils de Yicheï.

43 וַיַּכּ֕וּ אֶת־שְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַפְּלֵטָ֖ה לַעֲמָלֵ֑ק וַיֵּ֣שְׁבוּ שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ {פ}
Ils exterminèrent le reste des survivants d’Amalec, et ils habitent là encore aujourd’hui.

but his brothers did not have many sons and all their family did not multiply as much as the children of Judah They did not have as many children as the children of Judah. Since they were few, and Judah’s territory was too large for them, Judah accepted Simeon in its territory, because Simeon had no share in the land of Israel, as it says (Gen. 49:7): “I shall divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel,” and we learned in Genesis Rabbah (Shittah Hadashah): “I shall divide them among the Children of Israel to station scribes in Israel in the synagogues, etc.” Now how do we know that they agreed [to give them a share of their territory]? For it is written (Jos. 19:9): “Out of the lot of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon, for the portion of the children of Judah was too large for them; therefore the children of Simeon inherited in the midst of their inheritance,” lest the beasts of the field outnumber them. Now as regards the verse (ibid. v. 1): “And the second lot came out to Simeon,” this is what happened: They cast lots to choose which tribe would accept Simeon in its territory, and the lot fell upon the territory of Judah. And the meaning of the verse (Jud. 1:3): “And Judah said to Simeon his brother: Come up with me into my lot, and we will fight against the Canaanites, and I will also go with you into your lot,” refers to “the lot I have given you.”
