1 מַשָּׂ֖א מוֹאָ֑ב כִּ֠י בְּלֵ֞יל שֻׁדַּ֨ד עָ֤ר מוֹאָב֙ נִדְמָ֔ה כִּ֗י בְּלֵ֛יל שֻׁדַּ֥ד קִיר־מוֹאָ֖ב נִדְמָֽה׃ Oracle contre Moab: Oui, dans la nuit, Ar-Moab est assailli, ruiné; oui, dans la nuit, Kir-Moab est assailli, ruiné.

2 עָלָ֨ה הַבַּ֧יִת וְדִיבֹ֛ן הַבָּמ֖וֹת לְבֶ֑כִי עַל־נְב֞וֹ וְעַ֤ל מֵֽידְבָא֙ מוֹאָ֣ב יְיֵלִ֔יל בְּכׇל־רֹאשָׁ֣יו קׇרְחָ֔ה כׇּל־זָקָ֖ן גְּרוּעָֽה׃ On monte au sanctuaire, à Dibôn les Hauts-Lieux, pour pleurer; sur Nebo et sur Mèdeba, Moab se lamente. Toutes les têtes sont rasées, toutes les barbes sont coupées.

3 בְּחוּצֹתָ֖יו חָ֣גְרוּ שָׂ֑ק עַ֣ל גַּגּוֹתֶ֧יהָ וּבִרְחֹבֹתֶ֛יהָ כֻּלֹּ֥ה יְיֵלִ֖יל יֹרֵ֥ד בַּבֶּֽכִי׃ Dans les rues, on ceint le cilice; sur les terrasses, sur les places, tout le monde sanglote, fond en larmes.

4 וַתִּזְעַ֤ק חֶשְׁבּוֹן֙ וְאֶלְעָלֵ֔ה עַד־יַ֖הַץ נִשְׁמַ֣ע קוֹלָ֑ם עַל־כֵּ֗ן חֲלֻצֵ֤י מוֹאָב֙ יָרִ֔יעוּ נַפְשׁ֖וֹ יָ֥רְעָה לּֽוֹ׃ Hesbon, Elalê poussent des clameurs; jusqu’à Yahaç leur voix se fait entendre. Aussi les guerriers de Moab éclatent en plaintes, l’âme serrée d’angoisse.

5 לִבִּי֙ לְמוֹאָ֣ב יִזְעָ֔ק בְּרִיחֶ֕הָ עַד־צֹ֖עַר עֶגְלַ֣ת שְׁלִשִׁיָּ֑ה כִּ֣י ׀ מַעֲלֵ֣ה הַלּוּחִ֗ית בִּבְכִי֙ יַֽעֲלֶה־בּ֔וֹ כִּ֚י דֶּ֣רֶךְ חוֹרֹנַ֔יִם זַעֲקַת־שֶׁ֖בֶר יְעֹעֵֽרוּ׃ Mon cœur gémit sur Moab; ses fugitifs courent jusqu’à Çoar et Eglat-Chelichiya; ils gravissent en pleurant la montée de Louhit et, sur la route de Horonaïm, font retentir des clameurs de détresse.

6 כִּי־מֵ֥י נִמְרִ֖ים מְשַׁמּ֣וֹת יִֽהְי֑וּ כִּֽי־יָבֵ֤שׁ חָצִיר֙ כָּ֣לָה דֶ֔שֶׁא יֶ֖רֶק לֹ֥א הָיָֽה׃ Les eaux de Nimrim sont taries: les plantes sont desséchées, l’herbe a disparu, il n’y a plus de verdure.

7 עַל־כֵּ֖ן יִתְרָ֣ה עָשָׂ֑ה וּ֨פְקֻדָּתָ֔ם עַ֛ל נַ֥חַל הָעֲרָבִ֖ים יִשָּׂאֽוּם׃ C’est pourquoi les biens qu’ils avaient amassés, leurs objets précieux, ils les transportent au delà du torrent des saules.

8 כִּי־הִקִּ֥יפָה הַזְּעָקָ֖ה אֶת־גְּב֣וּל מוֹאָ֑ב עַד־אֶגְלַ֙יִם֙ יִלְלָתָ֔הּ וּבְאֵ֥ר אֵילִ֖ים יִלְלָתָֽהּ׃ Une clameur fait le tour des frontières de Moab: hurlements jusqu’à Eglaïm, hurlements jusqu’à Beër-Elim!

9 כִּ֣י מֵ֤י דִימוֹן֙ מָ֣לְאוּ דָ֔ם כִּֽי־אָשִׁ֥ית עַל־דִּימ֖וֹן נוֹסָפ֑וֹת לִפְלֵיטַ֤ת מוֹאָב֙ אַרְיֵ֔ה וְלִשְׁאֵרִ֖ית אֲדָמָֽה׃ Les eaux de Dimôn sont rouges de sang: voilà comme j’enrichis le cours de Dimôn! Un lion pour les échappés de Moab, pour les survivants du pays!

The harsh prophecy concerning Moab Isaiah prophesied that Sennacherib would come upon Moab and exile them, as it is said (infra 16:14): “In three years, like the years of a hireling, shall the glory of Moab be debased.”

for on the night that Ar of Moab was pillaged, it was as though they were sleeping silently Moab was silent as though they were sleeping silently and were unable to wage war, and on another night when Kir of Moab was pillaged, it was as though they were sleeping silently. Jonathan renders: And they were sleeping. Ar and Kir were two provinces of Moab.

בליל In the night of. ליל is in the construct state. It is an elliptical expression for in the night of such and such a day of the week.

מואב In Moab. במואב═מואב; the preposition ב is omitted.

נדמה Was destroyed. Comp. ודמיתי and I shall destroy (Hos. 4:5).
