Isaïe 9:17

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

9

2 הִרְבִּ֣יתָ הַגּ֔וֹי (לא) [ל֖וֹ] הִגְדַּ֣לְתָּ הַשִּׂמְחָ֑ה שָׂמְח֤וּ לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ כְּשִׂמְחַ֣ת בַּקָּצִ֔יר כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יָגִ֖ילוּ בְּחַלְּקָ֥ם שָׁלָֽל׃ Tu élèves ce peuple, Seigneur, tu lui accordes de grandes joies: ils se réjouissent en ta présence comme on se réjouit au temps de la moisson, comme on exulte au partage du butin;
3 כִּ֣י ׀ אֶת־עֹ֣ל סֻבֳּל֗וֹ וְאֵת֙ מַטֵּ֣ה שִׁכְמ֔וֹ שֵׁ֖בֶט הַנֹּגֵ֣שׂ בּ֑וֹ הַחִתֹּ֖תָ כְּי֥וֹם מִדְיָֽן׃ car le joug qui pesait sur lui, la barre qui courbait son épaule, la verge qui le fustigeait, tu les a brisés comme au jour de Madian.
6 (לם רבה) [לְמַרְבֵּ֨ה] הַמִּשְׂרָ֜ה וּלְשָׁל֣וֹם אֵֽין־קֵ֗ץ עַל־כִּסֵּ֤א דָוִד֙ וְעַל־מַמְלַכְתּ֔וֹ לְהָכִ֤ין אֹתָהּ֙ וּֽלְסַעֲדָ֔הּ בְּמִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּבִצְדָקָ֑ה מֵֽעַתָּה֙ וְעַד־עוֹלָ֔ם קִנְאַ֛ת יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת תַּעֲשֶׂה־זֹּֽאת׃ {פ}
16 עַל־כֵּ֨ן עַל־בַּחוּרָ֜יו לֹא־יִשְׂמַ֣ח ׀ אֲדֹנָ֗י וְאֶת־יְתֹמָ֤יו וְאֶת־אַלְמְנוֹתָיו֙ לֹ֣א יְרַחֵ֔ם כִּ֤י כֻלּוֹ֙ חָנֵ֣ף וּמֵרַ֔ע וְכׇל־פֶּ֖ה דֹּבֵ֣ר נְבָלָ֑ה בְּכׇל־זֹאת֙ לֹא־שָׁ֣ב אַפּ֔וֹ וְע֖וֹד יָד֥וֹ נְטוּיָֽה׃ C’est pourquoi le Seigneur n’a aucune satisfaction de ses jeunes gens, ni n’éprouve aucune pitié pour ses veuves et ses orphelins, car tous, ils sont dépravés et malfaisants, toutes les bouches profèrent des propos honteux...

Rashi

English

For wickedness has burnt like fire Their wickedness shall burn them and consume them like fire.

worms and thorns [i.e.,] their [worms and thorns] shall consume their rebels and their transgressors.

and it kindled in the thickets of the forest in the impoverished segment of the population. “Thicket” refers to the branches.

and they have become entangled by the thickening smoke. They shall become entangled and hemmed in by the strength of the conflagration. Every expression of entanglement has only בך as its radical. Comp. (Job 28:11) “From the recesses (מִבְּכִי) of the rivers”; (Psalms 84:7) “The valley of entanglement (הַבָּכָא).” And the ‘nun’ appears in it sometimes, and here an ‘aleph’ appears in place of the ‘nun,’ like the ‘aleph’ of אִבְחַת, “the howling of the sword” (Ezekiel 21:20), and the ‘aleph’ of וְאַחְוָתִי, “And my speech in your ears” (Job 13:17).

Ibn Ezra

English

For wickedness burneth, etc. The prophet compares the fate of the wicked with the fire which consumes the thing that has produced the fire.

Thorns and thistles. The wicked. Hapax legomenon. And they mount up.
