1 וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ Job reprit la parole et dit:

2 מֶה־עָזַ֥רְתָּ לְלֹא־כֹ֑חַ ה֝וֹשַׁ֗עְתָּ זְר֣וֹעַ לֹא־עֹֽז׃ Comme tu sais secourir la faiblesse, soutenir les bras défaillants!

3 מַה־יָּ֭עַצְתָּ לְלֹ֣א חׇכְמָ֑ה וְ֝תֻשִׁיָּ֗ה לָרֹ֥ב הוֹדָֽעְתָּ׃ Comme tu sais conseiller l’ignorance et répandre la science à profusion!

4 אֶת־מִ֭י הִגַּ֣דְתָּ מִלִּ֑ין וְנִשְׁמַת־מִ֝֗י יָצְאָ֥ה מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ A l’adresse de qui as-tu débité ton discours et de qui l’inspiration a-t-elle passé par ta bouche?

5 הָרְפָאִ֥ים יְחוֹלָ֑לוּ מִתַּ֥חַת מַ֝֗יִם וְשֹׁכְנֵיהֶֽם׃ Les ombres des trépassés se prennent à trembler au-dessous des eaux et de leurs habitants.

6 עָר֣וֹם שְׁא֣וֹל נֶגְדּ֑וֹ וְאֵ֥ין כְּ֝ס֗וּת לָאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃ Le Cheol est à nu devant lui et l’abîme n’a pas de voile.

7 נֹטֶ֣ה צָפ֣וֹן עַל־תֹּ֑הוּ תֹּ֥לֶה אֶ֝֗רֶץ עַל־בְּלִי־מָֽה׃ Il étend le Septentrion sur le vide, il suspend la terre sur le néant.

8 צֹרֵֽר־מַ֥יִם בְּעָבָ֑יו וְלֹֽא־נִבְקַ֖ע עָנָ֣ן תַּחְתָּֽם׃ Il emmagasine les eaux dans ses nuages, sans que la nuée crève sous leur poids.

9 מְאַחֵ֥ז פְּנֵֽי־כִסֵּ֑ה פַּרְשֵׁ֖ז עָלָ֣יו עֲנָנֽוֹ׃ Il dérobe la vue de son trône, en déroulant sur lui sa nuée.

10 חֹֽק־חָ֭ג עַל־פְּנֵי־מָ֑יִם עַד־תַּכְלִ֖ית א֣וֹר עִם־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ Il a tracé un cercle sur la surface des eaux, jusqu’au point où la lumière confine aux ténèbres.

11 עַמּוּדֵ֣י שָׁמַ֣יִם יְרוֹפָ֑פוּ וְ֝יִתְמְה֗וּ מִגַּעֲרָתֽוֹ׃ Les colonnes du ciel frémissent et s’effarent sous sa menace.

12 בְּ֭כֹחוֹ רָגַ֣ע הַיָּ֑ם (ובתובנתו) [וּ֝בִתְבוּנָת֗וֹ] מָ֣חַץ רָֽהַב׃ Par sa force, il dompte la mer et, par sa sagesse, il en brise l’orgueil.

13 בְּ֭רוּחוֹ שָׁמַ֣יִם שִׁפְרָ֑ה חֹלְלָ֥ה יָ֝ד֗וֹ נָחָ֥שׁ בָּרִֽחַ׃ Par son souffle, le ciel s’éclaircit; sa main transperce le serpent aux replis tortueux.

14 הֶן־אֵ֤לֶּה ׀ קְצ֬וֹת דְּרָכָ֗ו וּמַה־שֵּׁ֣מֶץ דָּ֭בָר נִשְׁמַע־בּ֑וֹ וְרַ֥עַם גְּ֝בוּרֹתָ֗ו מִ֣י יִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃ {פ}
Eh bien! Ce n’est là qu’une partie de ses actes; quel faible écho nous en avons recueilli! Mais le tonnerre de ses exploits, qui pourrait le concevoir?

הרפאים. הם גרעיני הזרע וקראם רפאים להיותם קודם הזריעה כמתים וימצא להם כח נפשי כשנזרעו וזה פלא גדול ואמר זה בצמחים אשר יצמחו בקרקע הים והנהרות כמו האלמוג והדומה לו ממה שיצמח תחת המים וזה פלא שיגיע פועל השם באמצעות הגרמים השמימיים לכמו אלו המקומות ולא ימנעום המים והארץ אשר עליהם משיגיע שם פועל הכוכבים או ירצה ברפאים הדומימיים והם המחצבים כמו המתכות ושאר הדברים ההוים בבטן הארץ מתחת המים ותחת שוכניהם מצד האידים אשר ימציאו שם הכוכבים כמו שהתבאר בטבעיות וקראם רפאים להיותם כמתים שאין בהם כח נפשי כלל והנה זה הביאור יותר נאות מצד הלשון כי לפי הביאור הראשון היה ראוי שיאמר הרפאים יצמחו:
