1 מַשָּׂ֖א נִֽינְוֵ֑ה סֵ֧פֶר חֲז֛וֹן נַח֖וּם הָאֶלְקֹשִֽׁי׃ Oracle sur Ninive. Livre de la prophétie de Nahoum l’Elkosite:

2 אֵ֣ל קַנּ֤וֹא וְנֹקֵם֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה נֹקֵ֥ם יְהֹוָ֖ה וּבַ֣עַל חֵמָ֑ה נֹקֵ֤ם יְהֹוָה֙ לְצָרָ֔יו וְנוֹטֵ֥ר ה֖וּא לְאֹיְבָֽיו׃ "L’Éternel est un Dieu jaloux et vengeur; oui, l’Éternel se venge, il est capable de se courroucer: l’Éternel se venge de ses adversaires et il garde rancune à ses ennemis.

3 יְהֹוָ֗ה אֶ֤רֶךְ אַפַּ֙יִם֙ (וגדול) [וּגְדׇל־]כֹּ֔חַ וְנַקֵּ֖ה לֹ֣א יְנַקֶּ֑ה יְהֹוָ֗ה בְּסוּפָ֤ה וּבִשְׂעָרָה֙ דַּרְכּ֔וֹ וְעָנָ֖ן אֲבַ֥ק רַגְלָֽיו׃ L’Éternel est tardif à la colère, d’une grande force de patience; mais il n’absout pas complètement [le mal]: l’Éternel marque sa route par la tempête et l’ouragan; la nuée est la poussière de ses pieds.

4 גּוֹעֵ֤ר בַּיָּם֙ וַֽיַּבְּשֵׁ֔הוּ וְכׇל־הַנְּהָר֖וֹת הֶחֱרִ֑יב אֻמְלַ֤ל בָּשָׁן֙ וְכַרְמֶ֔ל וּפֶ֥רַח לְבָנ֖וֹן אֻמְלָֽל׃ Il menace la mer et la dessèche, il fait tarir tous les fleuves: le Basan et le Carmel deviennent arides et la fleur du Liban se fane.

5 הָרִים֙ רָעֲשׁ֣וּ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ וְהַגְּבָע֖וֹת הִתְמֹגָ֑גוּ וַתִּשָּׂ֤א הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ מִפָּנָ֔יו וְתֵבֵ֖ל וְכׇל־י֥וֹשְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃ Les montagnes tremblent devant lui et les collines se liquéfient. La terre se soulève à son aspect, l’univers et tout ce qui l’habite.

6 לִפְנֵ֤י זַעְמוֹ֙ מִ֣י יַעֲמ֔וֹד וּמִ֥י יָק֖וּם בַּחֲר֣וֹן אַפּ֑וֹ חֲמָתוֹ֙ נִתְּכָ֣ה כָאֵ֔שׁ וְהַצֻּרִ֖ים נִתְּצ֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ Devant son courroux qui peut tenir ferme? Qui peut résister à l’ardeur de sa colère? Sa fureur se répand comme le feu, les rochers éclatent devant lui.

7 ט֣וֹב יְהֹוָ֔ה לְמָע֖וֹז בְּי֣וֹם צָרָ֑ה וְיֹדֵ֖עַ חֹ֥סֵי בֽוֹ׃ L’Éternel est bon, il devient un refuge au jour de la détresse; il protège ceux qui se confient en lui.

8 וּבְשֶׁ֣טֶף עֹבֵ֔ר כָּלָ֖ה יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה מְקוֹמָ֑הּ וְאֹיְבָ֖יו יְרַדֶּף־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ Mais par le cours impétueux des flots, il balaie les assises de la ville, et ses ennemis, il les rejette violemment dans les ténèbres.

9 מַה־תְּחַשְּׁבוּן֙ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה כָּלָ֖ה ה֣וּא עֹשֶׂ֑ה לֹא־תָק֥וּם פַּעֲמַ֖יִם צָרָֽה׃ Que méditez-vous contre l’Éternel? Il va consommer la ruine. Le désastre ne s’y prendra pas à deux fois.

10 כִּ֚י עַד־סִירִ֣ים סְבֻכִ֔ים וּכְסׇבְאָ֖ם סְבוּאִ֑ים אֻ֨כְּל֔וּ כְּקַ֥שׁ יָבֵ֖שׁ מָלֵֽא׃ Car fussent-ils aussi enchevêtrés que des épines et tout imbibés de leurs boissons, ils seront consumés comme du chaume entièrement sec.

11 מִמֵּ֣ךְ יָצָ֔א חֹשֵׁ֥ב עַל־יְהֹוָ֖ה רָעָ֑ה יֹעֵ֖ץ בְּלִיָּֽעַל׃ {ס} C’est de toi qu’est sorti celui qui nourrissait de mauvaises pensées contre l’Éternel: il formait d’exécrables projets.

12 כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה אִם־שְׁלֵמִים֙ וְכֵ֣ן רַבִּ֔ים וְכֵ֥ן נָג֖וֹזּוּ וְעָבָ֑ר וְעִ֨נִּתִ֔ךְ לֹ֥א אֲעַנֵּ֖ךְ עֽוֹד׃ Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Si nombreux et puissants qu’ils soient, ils seront quand même fauchés, et c’en sera fini. Je t’accablerai et n’aurai pas besoin de t’accabler une seconde fois.

13 וְעַתָּ֕ה אֶשְׁבֹּ֥ר מֹטֵ֖הוּ מֵעָלָ֑יִךְ וּמוֹסְרֹתַ֖יִךְ אֲנַתֵּֽק׃ Et ainsi je briserai son joug qui pesait sur toi, et je romprai tes liens.

14 וְצִוָּ֤ה עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה לֹא־יִזָּרַ֥ע מִשִּׁמְךָ֖ ע֑וֹד מִבֵּ֨ית אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ אַכְרִ֨ית פֶּ֧סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֛ה אָשִׂ֥ים קִבְרֶ֖ךָ כִּ֥י קַלּֽוֹתָ׃ {פ}
Mais contre toi l’Éternel rend ce décret: Nul rejeton, se rattachant à ton nom, ne sortira plus de toi; de la maison de ton dieu j’extirperai images sculptées et statues de fonte, et j’en ferai ton tombeau, car tu es bien peu de chose."

English

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power—He is great in power, and He has the ability to wreak vengeance. The reason He did not hasten His revenge is that He is slow to anger, but, in any case, He will not acquit.

the Lord - His way is with a tempest and with a storm—They [the tempest and storm] are His messengers for wreaking retribution upon His enemies, as it is stated concerning Egypt (Exod. 14:21): “with a mighty east wind”; and concerning the generation of the Flood (Job 4:9): “From the breath of God they perish.” Concerning Tyre, it is stated (Ezek. 27:26): “The east wind has broken you.”

and cloud is the dust of His feet—That, too, is the way of His vengeance. (Exod. 14:24) “And the Lord looked over the camp of the Egyptians with a pillar of fire and cloud”; also, (Ezek. 30:18) “As for her, a cloud shall cover her.”

ה' הטעם אמת שהוא ארך אפים וגדל כח. הטעם כפול דרך, משל לאדם שיש לו כח גדול אז ימשול בכעסו וכן הוא כתוב בתורה: ועתה יגדל נא כח ה' וכתוב אחריו: ה' ארך אפים ואע"פ שיאריך לרשעים, לא ינקה אותם.

וטעם בסופה - משל למהירות ברוח סערה.

וענן אבק רגליו - דרך משל למרוצת העננים. והטעם: על הגזירות הבאות מהשמים במהרה, שהם למעלה מהעננים.
