1 וּבְכׇל־זֹ֕את אֲנַ֛חְנוּ כֹּרְתִ֥ים אֲמָנָ֖ה וְכֹתְבִ֑ים וְעַל֙ הֶֽחָת֔וּם שָׂרֵ֥ינוּ לְוִיֵּ֖נוּ כֹּהֲנֵֽינוּ׃ A la suite de tout cela, nous conclûmes un pacte que nous mimes par écrit, et qui fut signé par nos chefs, nos Lévites et nos prêtres.

2 וְעַ֖ל הַחֲתוּמִ֑ים נְחֶמְיָ֧ה הַתִּרְשָׁ֛תָא בֶּן־חֲכַלְיָ֖ה וְצִדְקִיָּֽה׃ Parmi les signataires [figuraient]: Néhémie, le gouverneur, fils de Hakhalia, et Sédécias;

3 שְׂרָיָ֥ה עֲזַרְיָ֖ה יִרְמְיָֽה׃ Seraia, Azaria, Jérémie;

4 פַּשְׁח֥וּר אֲמַרְיָ֖ה מַלְכִּיָּֽה׃ Pachhour, Amarla, Malkla;

5 חַטּ֥וּשׁ שְׁבַנְיָ֖ה מַלּֽוּךְ׃ Hattouch, Chebania, Mallouc;

6 חָרִ֥ם מְרֵמ֖וֹת עֹֽבַדְיָֽה׃ Harim, Merémot, Obadia;

7 דָּנִיֵּ֥אל גִּנְּת֖וֹן בָּרֽוּךְ׃ Daniel, Ghinnetôn, Baruch;

8 מְשֻׁלָּ֥ם אֲבִיָּ֖ה מִיָּמִֽן׃ Mechoullam, Abia, Miyamin;

9 מַֽעַזְיָ֥ה בִלְגַּ֖י שְׁמַֽעְיָ֑ה אֵ֖לֶּה הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃ Maazia, Bilgaï, Chemaïa; voilà pour les prêtres.

10 וְֽהַלְוִיִּ֑ם וְיֵשׁ֙וּעַ֙ בֶּן־אֲזַנְיָ֔ה בִּנּ֕וּי מִבְּנֵ֥י חֵנָדָ֖ד קַדְמִיאֵֽל׃ Pour les Lévites: Yêchoua, fils d’Azania, Binnoui, des fils de Hênadad, Kadmiêl;

11 וַאֲחֵיהֶ֑ם שְׁבַנְיָ֧ה הֽוֹדִיָּ֛ה קְלִיטָ֖א פְּלָאיָ֥ה חָנָֽן׃ leurs frères; Chebania, Hodia, Kelita, Pelaia, Hanân;

12 מִיכָ֥א רְח֖וֹב חֲשַׁבְיָֽה׃ Mikha, Rehob, Hachabia;

13 זַכּ֥וּר שֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֖ה שְׁבַנְיָֽה׃ Zaccour, Chèrèbia, Chebania;

14 הוֹדִיָּ֥ה בָנִ֖י בְּנִֽינוּ׃ {ס} Hodia, Bâni, Beninou.

15 רָאשֵׁ֖י הָעָ֑ם פַּרְעֹשׁ֙ פַּחַ֣ת מוֹאָ֔ב עֵילָ֥ם זַתּ֖וּא בָּנִֽי׃ Les chefs du peuple: Paroch, Pahat-Moab, Elam, Zattou, Bâni;

16 בֻּנִּ֥י עַזְגָּ֖ד בֵּבָֽי׃ Bounni, Azgad, Bêbai;

17 אֲדֹנִיָּ֥ה בִגְוַ֖י עָדִֽין׃ Adonia, Bigvaï, Adîn;

18 אָטֵ֥ר חִזְקִיָּ֖ה עַזּֽוּר׃ Atér, Hizkia, Azzour;

19 הוֹדִיָּ֥ה חָשֻׁ֖ם בֵּצָֽי׃ Hodia, Hachoum, Bêçaï;

20 חָרִ֥יף עֲנָת֖וֹת (נובי) [נֵיבָֽי]׃ Harif, Anatot, Nêbai;

21 מַגְפִּיעָ֥שׁ מְשֻׁלָּ֖ם חֵזִֽיר׃ Magpiach, Mechoullam, Hêzir;

22 מְשֵׁיזַבְאֵ֥ל צָד֖וֹק יַדּֽוּעַ׃ Mechêzabel, Çadok, Yaddoua;

23 פְּלַטְיָ֥ה חָנָ֖ן עֲנָיָֽה׃ Pelatia, Hanân, Anaïa;

24 הוֹשֵׁ֥עַ חֲנַנְיָ֖ה חַשּֽׁוּב׃ Hochêa, Hanania, Hachoub;

25 הַלּוֹחֵ֥שׁ פִּלְחָ֖א שׁוֹבֵֽק׃ Halohech, Pilha, Chobek;

26 רְח֥וּם חֲשַׁבְנָ֖ה מַעֲשֵׂיָֽה׃ Rehoum, Hachabna, Maassèya;

27 וַאֲחִיָּ֥ה חָנָ֖ן עָנָֽן׃ Ahiya, Hanân, Anân;

28 מַלּ֥וּךְ חָרִ֖ם בַּעֲנָֽה׃ Mallouc, Harim et Baana.

29 וּשְׁאָ֣ר הָעָ֡ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים הַ֠לְוִיִּ֠ם הַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֨ים הַמְשֹׁרְרִ֜ים הַנְּתִינִ֗ים וְֽכׇל־הַנִּבְדָּ֞ל מֵעַמֵּ֤י הָאֲרָצוֹת֙ אֶל־תּוֹרַ֣ת הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים נְשֵׁיהֶ֖ם בְּנֵיהֶ֣ם וּבְנֹתֵיהֶ֑ם כֹּ֖ל יוֹדֵ֥עַ מֵבִֽין׃ Et le reste du peuple, les prêtres, les Lévites, les portiers, les chanteurs, les serviteurs [du temple], tous ceux qui s’étaient séparés des populations des pays pour se rallier à la loi de Dieu, leurs femmes, leurs fils, leurs filles et tous ceux qui étaient capables de comprendre,

30 מַחֲזִיקִ֣ים עַל־אֲחֵיהֶם֮ אַדִּירֵיהֶם֒ וּבָאִ֞ים בְּאָלָ֣ה וּבִשְׁבוּעָ֗ה לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ בְּתוֹרַ֣ת הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִתְּנָ֔ה בְּיַ֖ד מֹשֶׁ֣ה עֶֽבֶד־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְלִשְׁמ֣וֹר וְלַעֲשׂ֗וֹת אֶת־כׇּל־מִצְוֺת֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֲדֹנֵ֔ינוּ וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֖יו וְחֻקָּֽיו׃ se joignirent à leurs frères, les personnages notables, et s’engagèrent par un serment solennel à suivre la loi de Dieu, qui avait été donnée par l’organe de Moïse, serviteur de Dieu, à observer et à pratiquer tous les commandements de l’Éternel, notre Seigneur, ses statuts et ses ordonnances;

31 וַאֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא־נִתֵּ֥ן בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ לְעַמֵּ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ וְאֶת־בְּנֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם לֹ֥א נִקַּ֖ח לְבָנֵֽינוּ׃ à ne pas marier nos filles avec les populations [païennes] du pays et à ne pas faire épouser leurs filles par nos fils;

32 וְעַמֵּ֣י הָאָ֡רֶץ הַֽמְבִיאִים֩ אֶת־הַמַּקָּח֨וֹת וְכׇל־שֶׁ֜בֶר בְּי֤וֹם הַשַּׁבָּת֙ לִמְכּ֔וֹר לֹא־נִקַּ֥ח מֵהֶ֛ם בַּשַּׁבָּ֖ת וּבְי֣וֹם קֹ֑דֶשׁ וְנִטֹּ֛שׁ אֶת־הַשָּׁנָ֥ה הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖ית וּמַשָּׁ֥א כׇל־יָֽד׃ et, au cas où les populations du pays viendraient débiter des marchandises et des denrées quelconques le jour du sabbat, à ne rien leur acheter ni ce jour ni les autres jours consacrés; à laisser, la septième année, chômer [la terre] et périmer toute créance.

33 וְהֶעֱמַ֤דְנוּ עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ מִצְוֺ֔ת לָתֵ֥ת עָלֵ֛ינוּ שְׁלִישִׁ֥ית הַשֶּׁ֖קֶל בַּשָּׁנָ֑ה לַעֲבֹדַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ De plus, nous nous soumîmes à l’obligation de nous imposer, chaque année, un tiers de sicle pour le service du temple de notre Dieu,

34 לְלֶ֣חֶם הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֡כֶת וּמִנְחַ֣ת הַתָּמִ֣יד וּלְעוֹלַ֣ת הַ֠תָּמִ֠יד הַשַּׁבָּת֨וֹת הֶחֳדָשִׁ֜ים לַמּוֹעֲדִ֗ים וְלַקֳּדָשִׁים֙ וְלַ֣חַטָּא֔וֹת לְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְכֹ֖ל מְלֶ֥אכֶת בֵּית־אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ {ס} pour le pain de proposition, l’oblation perpétuelle et l’holocauste perpétuel [les sacrifices] des sabbats, des néoménies et autres solennités, les offrandes sacrées, les expiatoires destinés à faire propitiation en faveur d’Israël; et tous les travaux de la maison de notre Dieu.

35 וְהַגּוֹרָל֨וֹת הִפַּ֜לְנוּ עַל־קֻרְבַּ֣ן הָעֵצִ֗ים הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים הַלְוִיִּם֮ וְהָעָם֒ לְ֠הָבִ֠יא לְבֵ֨ית אֱלֹהֵ֧ינוּ לְבֵית־אֲבֹתֵ֛ינוּ לְעִתִּ֥ים מְזֻמָּנִ֖ים שָׁנָ֣ה בְשָׁנָ֑ה לְבַעֵ֗ר עַל־מִזְבַּח֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ כַּכָּת֖וּב בַּתּוֹרָֽה׃ Nous désignâmes aussi, par la voie du sort, les prêtres, les Lévites et les gens du peuple chargés d’apporter l’offrande du bois au temple de notre Dieu, dans cette maison de nos ancêtres, année par année, à des époques déterminées, afin d’entretenir le feu sur l’autel de l’Éternel, notre Dieu, comme cela est prescrit dans la Thora.

36 וּלְהָבִ֞יא אֶת־בִּכּוּרֵ֣י אַדְמָתֵ֗נוּ וּבִכּוּרֵ֛י כׇּל־פְּרִ֥י כׇל־עֵ֖ץ שָׁנָ֣ה בְשָׁנָ֑ה לְבֵ֖ית יְהֹוָֽה׃ [Nous promîmes aussi] d’apporter les prémices de notre sol et les prémices de tous les fruits des arbres, année par année, dans le temple de l’Éternel;

37 וְאֶת־בְּכֹר֤וֹת בָּנֵ֙ינוּ֙ וּבְהֶמְתֵּ֔נוּ כַּכָּת֖וּב בַּתּוֹרָ֑ה וְאֶת־בְּכוֹרֵ֨י בְקָרֵ֜ינוּ וְצֹאנֵ֗ינוּ לְהָבִיא֙ לְבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ לַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים הַמְשָׁרְתִ֖ים בְּבֵ֥ית אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ [d’observer] pour les premiers-nés de nos fils et de nos animaux ce qui est écrit dans la Thora; d’amener les premiers-nés de notre gros et de notre menu bétail au temple de notre Dieu, pour les prêtres qui font le service dans le temple de notre Dieu;

38 וְאֶת־רֵאשִׁ֣ית עֲרִיסֹתֵ֣ינוּ וּ֠תְרוּמֹתֵ֠ינוּ וּפְרִ֨י כׇל־עֵ֜ץ תִּיר֣וֹשׁ וְיִצְהָ֗ר נָבִ֤יא לַכֹּהֲנִים֙ אֶל־לִשְׁכ֣וֹת בֵּית־אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ וּמַעְשַׂ֥ר אַדְמָתֵ֖נוּ לַלְוִיִּ֑ם וְהֵם֙ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם הַֽמְעַשְּׂרִ֔ים בְּכֹ֖ל עָרֵ֥י עֲבֹדָתֵֽנוּ׃ d’apporter pour les prêtres, dans les salles de la maison de notre Dieu, la première part de nos pâtes et nos prélèvements des fruits de tous les arbres, du moût et de l’huile, ainsi que la dîme de notre sol pour les Lévites. Et ce sont ces mêmes Lévites qui devront recueillir la dîme dans toutes nos villes agricoles.

39 וְהָיָ֨ה הַכֹּהֵ֧ן בֶּֽן־אַהֲרֹ֛ן עִם־הַלְוִיִּ֖ם בַּעְשֵׂ֣ר הַלְוִיִּ֑ם וְהַלְוִיִּ֞ם יַעֲל֨וּ אֶת־מַעֲשַׂ֤ר הַֽמַּעֲשֵׂר֙ לְבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ אֶל־הַלְּשָׁכ֖וֹת לְבֵ֥ית הָאוֹצָֽר׃ Il fut convenu qu’un prêtre, descendant d’Aaron, assisterait les Lévites, quand ceux-ci prélèveraient la dîme, et que les Lévites transporteraient la dîme de la dîme dans le temple de notre Dieu, dans les salles de la maison du trésor.

40 כִּ֣י אֶל־הַ֠לְּשָׁכ֠וֹת יָבִ֨יאוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל וּבְנֵ֣י הַלֵּוִ֗י אֶת־תְּרוּמַ֣ת הַדָּגָן֮ הַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ וְהַיִּצְהָר֒ וְשָׁם֙ כְּלֵ֣י הַמִּקְדָּ֔שׁ וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ הַמְשָׁ֣רְתִ֔ים וְהַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֖ים וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִ֑ים וְלֹ֥א נַעֲזֹ֖ב אֶת־בֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ Car c’est dans ces salles que les enfants d’Israël et les fils de Lévi devaient apporter le tribut du blé, du moût et de l’huile; là aussi devaient se trouver les ustensiles du sanctuaire et les prêtres de service, les portiers et les chanteurs. De la sorte, nous ne délaisserons pas la maison de notre Dieu.

To charge ourselves one-third of a shekel yearly: It is fitting that you should know that this shekel was bigger than the shekel mentioned in the Torah. And that is why a third of a shekel sufficed for them, since it was [equivalent to] the half-shekel that the Torah commanded. And it has already been explained in Parashat Ki Tissa that this silver was given for the service of the tabernacle, to [use it for] all of the communal sacrifices and all of the work that was required in the Temple. And in order that the service in the Temple never cease, they cast lots for the wood offering. Meaning to say that some of them would bring wood to the Temple [at one time], and others at another time, in such a way that the matter was controlled, to bring it at set and controlled times. This was in such a way that wood would not be lacking for the requirements of the arrangement [of wood] on the altar, and it appears that they also erred with this in earlier times. And they also organized themselves to give the presents of the priesthood and the Levites in such a way that there would be priests and Levites to do the Temple service, and they should not be lacking bread or cloaks. For they also erred with this in earlier times, and that is why priests and Levites would leave the Temple service. And behold, they mentioned the gifts to the priests in this section: The first fruits, the firstborn of man and the firstborn of impure and pure animals, the dough tithe [challah], the priestly tithe, and the tithe from the tithe which the priests would take from the Levites. And they decreed that they should bring all of these presents to the priests in the House of God, in order that the priests not leave their service, to go around to the threshing floors to take the priestly tithes and [other] tithes.
