1 שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת לִשְׁלֹ֫מֹ֥ה אִם־יְהֹוָ֤ה ׀ לֹא־יִבְנֶ֬ה בַ֗יִת שָׁ֤וְא עָמְל֣וּ בוֹנָ֣יו בּ֑וֹ אִם־יְהֹוָ֥ה לֹא־יִשְׁמׇר־עִ֝֗יר שָׁ֤וְא ׀ שָׁקַ֬ד שׁוֹמֵֽר׃ Cantique des degrés. De Salomon. Si l’Éternel ne bâtit pas une maison, c’est en vain que peinent ceux qui la construisent; si l’Éternel ne garde pas une ville, c’est en vain que la sentinelle veille avec soin.

2 שָׁ֤וְא לָכֶ֨ם מַשְׁכִּ֪ימֵֽי ק֡וּם מְאַחֲרֵי־שֶׁ֗בֶת אֹ֭כְלֵי לֶ֣חֶם הָעֲצָבִ֑ים כֵּ֤ן יִתֵּ֖ן לִידִיד֣וֹ שֵׁנָֽא׃ C’est en vain que vous avancez l’heure du lever, que vous prolongez tard vos veilles, mangeant un pain péniblement gagné! A celui qu’il aime [Dieu] donne le nécessaire pendant son sommeil.

3 הִנֵּ֤ה נַחֲלַ֣ת יְהֹוָ֣ה בָּנִ֑ים שָׂ֝כָ֗ר פְּרִ֣י הַבָּֽטֶן׃ Voyez, le vrai don de l’Éternel, ce sont des fils; sa récompense, c’est le fruit des entrailles.

4 כְּחִצִּ֥ים בְּיַד־גִּבּ֑וֹר כֵּ֝֗ן בְּנֵ֣י הַנְּעוּרִֽים׃ Des flèches dans la main d’un guerrier, voilà ce que sont les fils de la jeunesse.

5 אַשְׁרֵ֤י הַגֶּ֗בֶר אֲשֶׁ֤ר מִלֵּ֥א אֶת־אַשְׁפָּת֗וֹ מֵ֫הֶ֥ם לֹֽא־יֵבֹ֑שׁוּ כִּֽי־יְדַבְּר֖וּ אֶת־אוֹיְבִ֣ים בַּשָּֽׁעַר׃ {פ}
Heureux l’homme qui en a rempli son carquois! Ils n’auront pas à rougir, lorsqu’ils plaideront contre des ennemis à la Porte.
