1 שִׁמְע֞וּ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל עַ֚ל כׇּל־הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר הֶעֱלֵ֛יתִי מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לֵאמֹֽר׃ Écoutez cette parole que prononce l’Éternel sur vous, enfants d’Israël, sur toute la famille que j’ai retirée du pays d’Égypte! La voici:

2 רַ֚ק אֶתְכֶ֣ם יָדַ֔עְתִּי מִכֹּ֖ל מִשְׁפְּח֣וֹת הָאֲדָמָ֑ה עַל־כֵּן֙ אֶפְקֹ֣ד עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם אֵ֖ת כׇּל־עֲוֺנֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ "C’est vous seuls que j’ai distingués entre toutes les familles de la terre, c’est pourquoi je vous demande compte de toutes vos fautes.

3 הֲיֵלְכ֥וּ שְׁנַ֖יִם יַחְדָּ֑ו בִּלְתִּ֖י אִם־נוֹעָֽדוּ׃ Deux hommes marchent-ils de concert, s’ils ne se sont pas entendus d’avance?

4 הֲיִשְׁאַ֤ג אַרְיֵה֙ בַּיַּ֔עַר וְטֶ֖רֶף אֵ֣ין ל֑וֹ הֲיִתֵּ֨ן כְּפִ֤יר קוֹלוֹ֙ מִמְּעֹ֣נָת֔וֹ בִּלְתִּ֖י אִם־לָכָֽד׃ Le lion rugit-il dans la forêt, s’il ne tient une proie? Le lionceau grince-t-il du fond de sa tanière, s’il n’a fait une capture?

5 הֲתִפֹּ֤ל צִפּוֹר֙ עַל־פַּ֣ח הָאָ֔רֶץ וּמוֹקֵ֖שׁ אֵ֣ין לָ֑הּ הֲיַֽעֲלֶה־פַּח֙ מִן־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה וְלָכ֖וֹד לֹ֥א יִלְכּֽוֹד׃ Le passereau tomberait-il dans le piège dressé sur le sol, si le piège ne l’attendait? Et le piège se soulèverait-il de terre, s’il n’avait fait une prise?

6 אִם־יִתָּקַ֤ע שׁוֹפָר֙ בְּעִ֔יר וְעָ֖ם לֹ֣א יֶחֱרָ֑דוּ אִם־תִּֽהְיֶ֤ה רָעָה֙ בְּעִ֔יר וַיהֹוָ֖ה לֹ֥א עָשָֽׂה׃ La trompette sonnera-t-elle dans une ville sans mettre le peuple en émoi? Un malheur atteindra-t-il la cité, si l’Éternel n’en est l’auteur?

7 כִּ֣י לֹ֧א יַעֲשֶׂ֛ה אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִ֖ה דָּבָ֑ר כִּ֚י אִם־גָּלָ֣ה סוֹד֔וֹ אֶל־עֲבָדָ֖יו הַנְּבִיאִֽים׃ Ainsi le Seigneur Dieu n’accomplit rien qu’il n’ait révélé son dessein à ses serviteurs, les prophètes.

8 אַרְיֵ֥ה שָׁאָ֖ג מִ֣י לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א אֲדֹנָ֤י יֱהֹוִה֙ דִּבֶּ֔ר מִ֖י לֹ֥א יִנָּבֵֽא׃ Le lion a rugi: qui n’aurait peur? Le Seigneur Dieu a parlé: qui ne prophétiserait?

9 הַשְׁמִ֙יעוּ֙ עַל־אַרְמְנ֣וֹת בְּאַשְׁדּ֔וֹד וְעַֽל־אַרְמְנ֖וֹת בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וְאִמְר֗וּ הֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ עַל־הָרֵ֣י שֹׁמְר֔וֹן וּרְא֞וּ מְהוּמֹ֤ת רַבּוֹת֙ בְּתוֹכָ֔הּ וַעֲשׁוּקִ֖ים בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃ Faites une proclamation près des palais d’Asdod, près des palais du pays d’Égypte, dites: "Venez tous ensemble sur les monts de Samarie, venez voir les grands désordres qui y règnent et les violences qui s’y commettent.

10 וְלֹא־יָדְע֥וּ עֲשׂוֹת־נְכֹחָ֖ה נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה הָא֥וֹצְרִ֛ים חָמָ֥ס וָשֹׁ֖ד בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ {פ}
Ils ne savent pas agir avec droiture, dit l’Éternel, eux qui entassent dans leurs palais les produits de la rapine et de l’oppression!"

11 לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֔ה צַ֖ר וּסְבִ֣יב הָאָ֑רֶץ וְהוֹרִ֤יד מִמֵּךְ֙ עֻזֵּ֔ךְ וְנָבֹ֖זּוּ אַרְמְנוֹתָֽיִךְ׃ Eh bien! dit le Seigneur Dieu, c’est l’ennemi! Il enserre le pays, il te dépouillera de ta puissance, tes palais seront pillés.

12 כֹּה֮ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָה֒ כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ יַצִּ֨יל הָרֹעֶ֜ה מִפִּ֧י הָאֲרִ֛י שְׁתֵּ֥י כְרָעַ֖יִם א֣וֹ בְדַל־אֹ֑זֶן כֵּ֣ן יִנָּצְל֞וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן בִּפְאַ֥ת מִטָּ֖ה וּבִדְמֶ֥שֶׁק עָֽרֶשׂ׃ Ainsi parle l’Éternel: "De même que le berger n’arrache de la gueule du lion que deux pattes ou un bout d’oreille, ainsi seront sauvés les enfants d’Israël qui, à Samarie, sont assis aux angles des lits et sur des tapis de Damas.

13 שִׁמְע֥וּ וְהָעִ֖ידוּ בְּבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב נְאֻם־אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י הַצְּבָאֽוֹת׃ Écoutez et rendez-en témoignage à la maison de Jacob, dit le Seigneur Dieu, le Dieu-Cebaot:

14 כִּ֗י בְּי֛וֹם פׇּקְדִ֥י פִשְׁעֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עָלָ֑יו וּפָֽקַדְתִּי֙ עַל־מִזְבְּח֣וֹת בֵּֽית־אֵ֔ל וְנִגְדְּעוּ֙ קַרְנ֣וֹת הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ וְנָפְל֖וּ לָאָֽרֶץ׃ Le jour où je punirai Israël pour ses péchés, je sévirai contre les autels de Béthel: les coins de l’autel seront abattus et tomberont à terre.

15 וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י בֵית־הַחֹ֖רֶף עַל־בֵּ֣ית הַקָּ֑יִץ וְאָבְד֞וּ בָּתֵּ֣י הַשֵּׁ֗ן וְסָפ֛וּ בָּתִּ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס} Alors je ferai crouler le palais d’hiver sur le palais d’été, les maisons d’ivoire seront ruinées, et c’en sera fini des habitations imposantes, dit l’Éternel."

Will a shophar be sounded—For the lookout sees troops approaching the city and sounds the shophar to warn the people. These are but words of allegory and similitude, [to be explained as follows:]

[4] Will a lion roar—That is Nebuchadnezzar. Another explanation: The prophets compare the holy spirit that comes upon them from the roar of a lion, as he states below: (verse 8) “A lion has roared; who will not fear?” And here he explains the allegory. Did the Holy One, blessed be He, bring the holy spirit into the mouths of the prophets to [prophesy] evil unless retribution was decreed by Him? That is the prey. Will the Holy One, blessed be He, let out a cry to speak harshly unless He has taken you with the snare of iniquity? Will a bird fall on a net that the net will not snare it? I.e, is it possible that you commit sins and it will not be a snare to you? Will a net ascend etc.? Similarly, will your iniquities ascend on high and not take you? Will a shophar be sounded in the city?... So should you quake before the words of the prophets who look out for you to deliver you from the evil, that it not come, and when the evil comes to you, should you not know that the Holy One, blessed be He, does it to you because you did not take heed of His prophets?
