Aliya 7

1 וַיִּקְרָ֥א מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶל־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֑ם אַתֶּ֣ם רְאִיתֶ֗ם אֵ֣ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר֩ עָשָׂ֨ה יְהֹוָ֤ה לְעֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לְפַרְעֹ֥ה וּלְכׇל־עֲבָדָ֖יו וּלְכׇל־אַרְצֽוֹ׃ Moïse fit appel à tout Israël, et leur dit: "Vous-mêmes, vous avez vu tout ce que l’Éternel a fait à vos yeux, dans le pays d’Égypte, à Pharaon, à tous ses serviteurs, à son pays entier;
8 וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֗ם אֶת־דִּבְרֵי֙ הַבְּרִ֣ית הַזֹּ֔את וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם אֹתָ֑ם לְמַ֣עַן תַּשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ אֵ֖ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֽׂוּן׃ {פ}

Ibn Ezra

English

wrath will fume The fire of wrath shall bum him until smoke appears. If he is an individual, he will die immediately; if it is a whole family, then all of the curse will alight — i.e., the curse shall alight upon that family, until its name is obliterated; if it is a whole tribe, then God will single it out for disaster. Each enumerated consequence applies to a different possibility, like “…shall be dedicated to God , and I shall offer it up for a burnt offering” [Judges 11: 31], as I have explained [comment on Judges 11: 31].

THE ANGER OF THE ETERNAL AND HIS JEALOUSY SHALL BE KINDLED AGAINST THAT MAN — this refers to the curse against the individual sinner, man or woman.

AND THE ETERNAL SHALL BLOT OUT HIS NAME — this is the curse against a whole family [if they all be sinners] for there is a common name to the head of their father’s house [and that name will be erased].
