Ecclésiaste 1:6

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

1

Paroles de Kohélet, fils de David, roi à Jérusalem.
Ce qui a été c’est ce qui sera; ce qui s’est fait, c’est ce qui se fera: il n’y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil!
11 אֵ֥ין זִכְר֖וֹן לָרִאשֹׁנִ֑ים וְגַ֨ם לָאַחֲרֹנִ֜ים שֶׁיִּהְי֗וּ לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֤ה לָהֶם֙ זִכָּר֔וֹן עִ֥ם שֶׁיִּהְי֖וּ לָאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃ {פ}
Moi, Kohélet, je suis devenu roi d’Israël, à Jérusalem.
13 וְנָתַ֣תִּי אֶת־לִבִּ֗י לִדְר֤וֹשׁ וְלָתוּר֙ בַּֽחׇכְמָ֔ה עַ֛ל כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשָׂ֖ה תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם ה֣וּא ׀ עִנְיַ֣ן רָ֗ע נָתַ֧ן אֱלֹהִ֛ים לִבְנֵ֥י הָאָדָ֖ם לַעֲנ֥וֹת בּֽוֹ׃ Et j’ai pris à cœur d’étudier, d’examiner avec sagacité tout ce qui se passe sous le soleil: c’est une triste besogne que Dieu a offerte aux fils d’Adam pour s’en tracasser.
16 דִּבַּ֨רְתִּי אֲנִ֤י עִם־לִבִּי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אֲנִ֗י הִנֵּ֨ה הִגְדַּ֤לְתִּי וְהוֹסַ֙פְתִּי֙ חׇכְמָ֔ה עַ֛ל כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֥ה לְפָנַ֖י עַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וְלִבִּ֛י רָאָ֥ה הַרְבֵּ֖ה חׇכְמָ֥ה וָדָֽעַת׃ Je me suis dit en moi-même: "Voilà que j’ai, moi, accumulé et amassé plus de sagesse que tous ceux qui m’ont précédé à Jérusalem; mon cœur a acquis un grand fonds de discernement et d’expérience."
17 וָאֶתְּנָ֤ה לִבִּי֙ לָדַ֣עַת חׇכְמָ֔ה וְדַ֥עַת הוֹלֵלֹ֖ת וְשִׂכְל֑וּת יָדַ֕עְתִּי שֶׁגַּם־זֶ֥ה ה֖וּא רַעְי֥וֹן רֽוּחַ׃ J’avais en effet appliqué mon attention à connaître la sagesse et à discerner la folie et la sottise, et je me suis aperçu que cela aussi était pâture de vent;

It goes to the south [(of the world in the daytime)] and turns to the north [(at night)]. Round and round [(the eastern and western sides)], the circuit goes, and [on the morrow], the circuit [of the previous day] is retraced. [(And thus with the wicked: Though their sun rises, it is destined to set, and the wicked are destined to return to the place of putridity whence they arose.)]

Commentaires sur Ecclésiaste 1:6

Rashi

English

The wind. The sun’s desire, talent in O.F., as in, “toward wherever there was the will הָרוּחַ to go.”

And upon its circuits [the wind] returns. Also tomorrow, the entire circuit and encircling that it went around yesterday, it encircles and goes around today.

It [the wind] goes toward the south. Always by day.

And it turns about toward the north. Always by night.

Round and round goes [the wind]. To the eastern and western sides, which it sometimes goes through by day, and sometimes circles at night. In Tammuz it goes through them, and in Teves it circles around them. Also the wicked, no matter how much their sun rises, they will ultimately set. No matter how much they gain power, they will ultimately return to their stench. From filth they came, and to filth they will return. And so —
