Ecclésiaste 12:11

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

12

1 וּזְכֹר֙ אֶת־בּ֣וֹרְאֶ֔יךָ בִּימֵ֖י בְּחוּרֹתֶ֑יךָ עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹא־יָבֹ֙אוּ֙ יְמֵ֣י הָֽרָעָ֔ה וְהִגִּ֣יעוּ שָׁנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֹּאמַ֔ר אֵֽין־לִ֥י בָהֶ֖ם חֵֽפֶץ׃ Surtout souviens-toi de ton Créateur aux jours de ta jeunesse, avant qu’arrivent les mauvais jours et que surviennent les années dont tu diras: "Elles n’ont pas d’agrément pour moi";
3 בַּיּ֗וֹם שֶׁיָּזֻ֙עוּ֙ שֹׁמְרֵ֣י הַבַּ֔יִת וְהִֽתְעַוְּת֖וּ אַנְשֵׁ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל וּבָטְל֤וּ הַטֹּֽחֲנוֹת֙ כִּ֣י מִעֵ֔טוּ וְחָשְׁכ֥וּ הָרֹא֖וֹת בָּאֲרֻבּֽוֹת׃ C’est le moment où fléchissent les gardiens de la maison, où se tordent les lutteurs vigoureux, où les meunières, devenues rares, restent oisives, et où celles qui regardent par les lucarnes voient trouble;
4 וְסֻגְּר֤וּ דְלָתַ֙יִם֙ בַּשּׁ֔וּק בִּשְׁפַ֖ל ק֣וֹל הַֽטַּחֲנָ֑ה וְיָקוּם֙ לְק֣וֹל הַצִּפּ֔וֹר וְיִשַּׁ֖חוּ כׇּל־בְּנ֥וֹת הַשִּֽׁיר׃ où les portes, ouvrant sur le dehors, se ferment, tandis que s’affaiblit le bruit du moulin, devenu semblable à la voix d’un passereau, et où s’éteignent toutes les modulations du chant;
5 גַּ֣ם מִגָּבֹ֤הַּ יִרָ֙אוּ֙ וְחַתְחַתִּ֣ים בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ וְיָנֵ֤אץ הַשָּׁקֵד֙ וְיִסְתַּבֵּ֣ל הֶֽחָגָ֔ב וְתָפֵ֖ר הָֽאֲבִיּוֹנָ֑ה כִּֽי־הֹלֵ֤ךְ הָאָדָם֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית עוֹלָמ֔וֹ וְסָבְב֥וּ בַשּׁ֖וּק הַסּוֹפְדִֽים׃ où l’on s’effraie de toute montée, où la route est pleine d’alarmes, où l’amandier fleurit, où une sauterelle paraît un pesant fardeau, et où les câpres demeurent impuissantes, car déjà l’homme se dirige vers sa demeure éternelle, et les pleureurs rôdent sur la place.
6 עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־[יֵרָתֵק֙] (ירחק) חֶ֣בֶל הַכֶּ֔סֶף וְתָר֖וּץ גֻּלַּ֣ת הַזָּהָ֑ב וְתִשָּׁ֤בֶר כַּד֙ עַל־הַמַּבּ֔וּעַ וְנָרֹ֥ץ הַגַּלְגַּ֖ל אֶל־הַבּֽוֹר׃ [N’attends pas] que se rompe la corde d’argent, que se brise la boule d’or, que le seau soit mis en pièces près de la fontaine et que la poulie fracassée roule dans la citerne;
7 וְיָשֹׁ֧ב הֶעָפָ֛ר עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ כְּשֶׁהָיָ֑ה וְהָר֣וּחַ תָּשׁ֔וּב אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר נְתָנָֽהּ׃ que la poussière retourne à la poussière, redevenant ce qu’elle était, et que l’esprit remonte à Dieu qui l’a donné.
12 וְיֹתֵ֥ר מֵהֵ֖מָּה בְּנִ֣י הִזָּהֵ֑ר עֲשׂ֨וֹת סְפָרִ֤ים הַרְבֵּה֙ אֵ֣ין קֵ֔ץ וְלַ֥הַג הַרְבֵּ֖ה יְגִעַ֥ת בָּשָֽׂר׃ Mais, mon fils, sois bien en garde contre ce qui viendrait s’y ajouter: on fait des livres en quantité, à ne pas finir; or, beaucoup méditer, c’est se fatiguer le corps.

The words of the sages [(who made fences for the Torah by enacting decrees to distance the Jews from actual transgressions)] are like goads [(Just as a goad guides the bullock in its furrows, so their words guide a man in the ways of life)]; and like nails, planted [(Just as nails are fixed, so the sages' words are fixed; and just as plants multiply, so their words "multiply" [i.e., they generate new learning.])] [nails] with "great heads," given by one shepherd [(Moses, by the mouth of G-d)].

Commentaires sur Ecclésiaste 12:11

Rashi

English

The words of the wise. They made a “fence” for the Torah with [various] decrees in order to distance a person from sin, e.g., eating hallowed things [is permitted] until dawn, but they declared “[only] until midnight,” and likewise, the evening recitation of Shema.

Are like goads. Just as this goad directs the cow to its furrows, so do their words direct a person to the ways of life.

Like well-fastened nails. Just as this nail is permanent, so are their words permanent, and just as a sapling is fruitful and multiplies, so are their words fruitful and multiply, to find a reason for them.

Of the masters of [learned] assemblies. Nails that have a large and thick head, grose in O.F. So did Dunash the son of Labrat explain it.

All were given from one Shepherd. All their words are the words of the living God, He said them; and one shepherd. (Sifsei Chachomim) gave them, Moshe from the Almighty.

Like [well fastened] nails. This is written with a sin, for the Torah, with its twenty-four books coincides with the number of the watches of the Kohanim and the Levyim.
