Isaïe 46:4

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

46

2 קָרְס֤וּ כָֽרְעוּ֙ יַחְדָּ֔ו לֹ֥א יָכְל֖וּ מַלֵּ֣ט מַשָּׂ֑א וְנַפְשָׁ֖ם בַּשְּׁבִ֥י הָלָֽכָה׃ {פ}
5 לְמִ֥י תְדַמְּי֖וּנִי וְתַשְׁו֑וּ וְתַמְשִׁל֖וּנִי וְנִדְמֶֽה׃ À qui oserez-vous me comparer, m’égaler?
6 הַזָּלִ֤ים זָהָב֙ מִכִּ֔יס וְכֶ֖סֶף בַּקָּנֶ֣ה יִשְׁקֹ֑לוּ יִשְׂכְּר֤וּ צוֹרֵף֙ וְיַעֲשֵׂ֣הוּ אֵ֔ל יִסְגְּד֖וּ אַף־יִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֽוּ׃ En voilà qui sortent avec profusion l’or de leur bourse et pèsent de l’argent à la balance; ils engagent un orfèvre pour qu’il en fasse un dieu, puis se courbent et se prosternent.
Souvenez-vous de cela et comportez-vous en hommes; infidèles, prenez-le à cœur.

Rashi

English

And until old age that you have aged and your strength is depleted, that you have no merit, I am the same with My mercy and with My trait of goodness to save you and to bear you and to carry you and deliver you. Since he says regarding their deity, that it is carried and also that it cannot deliver its burden, he says, “But I bear others, and I will deliver My burden.”

Targum Jonathan

English

Even unto eternity I am He, and my WORD shall endure for ages after ages. It is I who have created all men, and I have scattered them among the nations, yea, I will forgive their sins, and I will pardon.

Ibn Ezra

English

And even to old age, etc. This is a figurative expression; it means since the day they had become the people of the Lord for ever.

I have made the Israelites; I am, therefore, not like the gods of Babylon; the Babylonians make their gods. And I will carry and deliver the Israelites; while the idols cannot deliver the burden.
