1 לַ֭מְנַצֵּחַ עַל־מ֥וּת לַבֵּ֗ן מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃ Au chef des chantres. Sur Mout-Labbén. Psaume de David.

2 אוֹדֶ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה בְּכׇל־לִבִּ֑י אֲ֝סַפְּרָ֗ה כׇּל־נִפְלְאוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ Je rends grâce à l’Éternel de tout mon cœur, je veux proclamer toutes tes merveilles,

3 אֶשְׂמְחָ֣ה וְאֶעֶלְצָ֣ה בָ֑ךְ אֲזַמְּרָ֖ה שִׁמְךָ֣ עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ je veux me réjouir et exulter en toi, chanter ton nom, Dieu suprême,

4 בְּשׁוּב־אוֹיְבַ֥י אָח֑וֹר יִכָּשְׁל֥וּ וְ֝יֹאבְד֗וּ מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃ alors que mes ennemis lâchent pied et reculent, qu’ils trébuchent et périssent sous tes coups.

5 כִּֽי־עָ֭שִׂיתָ מִשְׁפָּטִ֣י וְדִינִ֑י יָשַׁ֥בְתָּ לְ֝כִסֵּ֗א שׁוֹפֵ֥ט צֶֽדֶק׃ Oui, tu as fait triompher mon droit, ma cause, pris place sur ton trône en juge équitable.

6 גָּעַ֣רְתָּ ג֭וֹיִם אִבַּ֣דְתָּ רָשָׁ֑ע שְׁמָ֥ם מָ֝חִ֗יתָ לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃ Tu as réprimandé les peuples, perdu l’impie: leur nom, tu l’as effacé à tout jamais.

7 הָֽאוֹיֵ֨ב ׀ תַּ֥מּוּ חֳרָב֗וֹת לָ֫נֶ֥צַח וְעָרִ֥ים נָתַ֑שְׁתָּ אָבַ֖ד זִכְרָ֣ם הֵֽמָּה׃ O l’ennemi! C’en est fini pour toujours des ruines; plus de villes démolies par toi! C’est leur souvenir à eux qui disparaît.

8 וַֽ֭יהֹוָה לְעוֹלָ֣ם יֵשֵׁ֑ב כּוֹנֵ֖ן לַמִּשְׁפָּ֣ט כִּסְאֽוֹ׃ Mais le Seigneur demeure éternellement, il a établi son trône pour la justice.

9 וְה֗וּא יִשְׁפֹּֽט־תֵּבֵ֥ל בְּצֶ֑דֶק יָדִ֥ין לְ֝אֻמִּ֗ים בְּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃ Oui, c’est lui qui juge le monde avec équité, il prononce sur les nations avec droiture.

10 וִ֘יהִ֤י יְהֹוָ֣ה מִשְׂגָּ֣ב לַדָּ֑ךְ מִ֝שְׂגָּ֗ב לְעִתּ֥וֹת בַּצָּרָֽה׃ Que l’Éternel soit donc un abri pour l’opprimé, un abri dans les temps de détresse!

11 וְיִבְטְח֣וּ בְ֭ךָ יוֹדְעֵ֣י שְׁמֶ֑ךָ כִּ֤י לֹֽא־עָזַ֖בְתָּ דֹרְשֶׁ֣יךָ יְהֹוָֽה׃ Ainsi se confient en toi ceux qui connaissent ton nom; car tu ne délaisses point, ô Seigneur, ceux qui te recherchent.

12 זַמְּר֗וּ לַ֭יהֹוָה יֹשֵׁ֣ב צִיּ֑וֹן הַגִּ֥ידוּ בָ֝עַמִּ֗ים עֲלִֽילוֹתָֽיו׃ Célébrez l’Éternel qui siège à Sion; proclamez parmi les peuples ses hauts faits.

13 כִּֽי־דֹרֵ֣שׁ דָּ֭מִים אוֹתָ֣ם זָכָ֑ר לֹֽא־שָׁ֝כַ֗ח צַעֲקַ֥ת (עניים) [עֲנָוִֽים]׃ Car il demande compte du sang [versé], il en conserve le souvenir, il n’oublie point le cri des humbles.

14 חָֽנְנֵ֬נִי יְהֹוָ֗ה רְאֵ֣ה עׇ֭נְיִי מִשֹּׂנְאָ֑י מְ֝רוֹמְמִ֗י מִשַּׁ֥עֲרֵי מָֽוֶת׃ Sois-moi propice, Seigneur! Vois quelle est ma misère du fait de mes ennemis, toi qui me retires des portes de la mort;

15 לְמַ֥עַן אֲסַפְּרָ֗ה כׇּֽל־תְּהִלָּ֫תֶ֥יךָ בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֥י בַת־צִיּ֑וֹן אָ֝גִ֗ילָה בִּישׁוּעָתֶֽךָ׃ afin que je puisse proclamer tes louanges aux portes de la fille de Sion et me réjouir de ton secours.

16 טָבְע֣וּ ג֭וֹיִם בְּשַׁ֣חַת עָשׂ֑וּ בְּרֶֽשֶׁת־ז֥וּ טָ֝מָ֗נוּ נִלְכְּדָ֥ה רַגְלָֽם׃ Que les peuples s’enfoncent dans la fosse qu’ils ont creusée, que leur pied s’embarrasse dans le filet qu’ils ont dissimulé!

17 נ֤וֹדַ֨ע ׀ יְהֹוָה֮ מִשְׁפָּ֢ט עָ֫שָׂ֥ה בְּפֹ֣עַל כַּ֭פָּיו נוֹקֵ֣שׁ רָשָׁ֑ע הִגָּי֥וֹן סֶֽלָה׃ L’Éternel s’est manifesté, il a exercé la justice; le méchant est pris au piège par ses propres œuvres. Higayon, Sélah!

18 יָשׁ֣וּבוּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים לִשְׁא֑וֹלָה כׇּל־גּ֝וֹיִ֗ם שְׁכֵחֵ֥י אֱלֹהִֽים׃ Qu’ils rentrent dans le Cheol, les impies! Tous les peuples oublieux de Dieu!

19 כִּ֤י לֹ֣א לָ֭נֶצַח יִשָּׁכַ֣ח אֶבְי֑וֹן תִּקְוַ֥ת (ענוים) [עֲ֝נִיִּ֗ים] תֹּאבַ֥ד לָעַֽד׃ Car le pauvre n’est pas oublié sans retour, l’espoir des humbles n’est pas perdu à jamais.

20 קוּמָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה אַל־יָעֹ֣ז אֱנ֑וֹשׁ יִשָּׁפְט֥וּ ג֝וֹיִ֗ם עַל־פָּנֶֽיךָ׃ Lève-toi, Seigneur! Que le mortel ne triomphe pas! Que les peuples soient appelés en jugement devant toi!

21 שִׁ֘יתָ֤ה יְהֹוָ֨ה ׀ מוֹרָ֗ה לָ֫הֶ֥ם יֵדְע֥וּ גוֹיִ֑ם אֱנ֖וֹשׁ הֵ֣מָּה סֶּֽלָה׃ {פ}
Inspire-leur, ô Éternel, la terreur: que les peuples sachent qu’ils sont de [faibles] mortels! Sélah!

That I may recount: – so that, when I am delivered from those that hate me, I may recount

all Thy praises: in the gates of the daughter of Sion: – for there shall be the thanks-giving, and songs and psalms shall be uttered there, for there the Glory shall rest.

I will exult in Thy deliverance: – i.e. the deliverance which Thou shalt effect for me from every single enemy I have. And he says in the gates of (in the same sense as in the verse) “to the gate unto the elders” (Deut. 25:7); and the word תְּהִלָּתֶיךָ is written with yodh (in the suffix), for he intends to speak of many praises. It lacks the complete sign of the plural feminine, having the plural masculine suffix termination only. And similar examples are: “I am wearied in the multitude of thy counsels” (עֲצָתָיִךְ, Is. 47:13); “And thy sisters (וַאֲחוֹתַיִךְ, Ezek. 16:55), Sodom and her daughters” (see the interpretation our rabbi (ad loc.) gives). And in that he says here all Thy praises; and in another place (Ps. 106:2) asks, “Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord?” David says, I will shew forth all Thy praises. In spite of all the troubles which came upon him, he gave praise and (made) confession to God, who delivered him from the enemies; but when he comes to narrate the wondrous signs He had given Israel generation after generation, he asks, “Who can make known all His praise?” And so the individual alone is not able to tell the wondrous signs of goodness and mercy which the Holy One – Blessed be He! – worketh for him, as he says (ibid. 40:6), “If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” For sometimes God – Blessed be He! – does a wondrous sign for a man who is unaware of it until later when he reflects upon it. And so our rabbis of blessed memory have said (Babli, Niddah 31a), “Even he to whom the wondrous sign happens does not recognise it.” And when David says all Thy praises, he speaks of the wondrous signs which He had wrought for him which were evident and known to all in the war with the enemies.
