Ruth 1:21

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

1

1 וַיְהִ֗י בִּימֵי֙ שְׁפֹ֣ט הַשֹּׁפְטִ֔ים וַיְהִ֥י רָעָ֖ב בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ אִ֜ישׁ מִבֵּ֧ית לֶ֣חֶם יְהוּדָ֗ה לָגוּר֙ בִּשְׂדֵ֣י מוֹאָ֔ב ה֥וּא וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ וּשְׁנֵ֥י בָנָֽיו׃ A l’époque où gouvernaient les Juges, il y eut une famine dans le pays; un homme quitta alors Bethléem en Juda pour aller séjourner dans les plaines de Moab, lui, sa femme et ses deux fils.
16 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר רוּת֙ אַל־תִּפְגְּעִי־בִ֔י לְעׇזְבֵ֖ךְ לָשׁ֣וּב מֵאַחֲרָ֑יִךְ כִּ֠י אֶל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר תֵּלְכִ֜י אֵלֵ֗ךְ וּבַאֲשֶׁ֤ר תָּלִ֙ינִי֙ אָלִ֔ין עַמֵּ֣ךְ עַמִּ֔י וֵאלֹהַ֖יִךְ אֱלֹהָֽי׃ Mais Ruth répliqua: "N’insiste pas près de moi, pour que je te quitte et m’éloigne de toi; car partout où tu iras, j’irai; où tu demeureras, je veux demeurer; ton peuple sera mon peuple et ton Dieu sera mon Dieu;
Noémi, voyant qu’elle était fermement décidée à l’accompagner, cessa d’insister près d’elle.

Rashi

English

I had gone forth full. With wealth and sons. Another interpretation [of “full”] is that she was pregnant.

Has testified against me. Has testified against me that I had sinned before Him. Another explanation is that the Divine Attribute of Justice has humbled me, as in, “And the pride of Yisroel shall be עָנָה humbled.”

Ibn Ezra

English

"Full.": with sons and wealth.

"And the Lord has testified against me.": Some say it comes from the root to answer because of me, but in my opinion, it is from the root of 'you shall not testify against your neighbor,' as in 'bring forth your witnesses against me.'

"And the Almighty has afflicted me.": Like a plague. Similar to 'creates evil,' either it afflicted me because of my sins, or the text speaks in the language of humans, and this is correct."

"The 'heh' of the response." The 'heh' of knowledge, as is found here."

"And the reason Naomi returned." Another time, to specify the time they came at the beginning of the barley harvest, for the gleaning of Ruth."
