Cantique des Cantiques 7:13

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

7

9 אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ אֶעֱלֶ֣ה בְתָמָ֔ר אֹֽחֲזָ֖ה בְּסַנְסִנָּ֑יו וְיִֽהְיוּ־נָ֤א שָׁדַ֙יִךְ֙ כְּאֶשְׁכְּל֣וֹת הַגֶּ֔פֶן וְרֵ֥יחַ אַפֵּ֖ךְ כַּתַּפּוּחִֽים׃ Je me suis dit: "Je monterai au palmier, je saisirai ses rameaux; que tes seins soient pour moi comme des grappes de la vigne, et l’odeur de tes narines comme celle des pommes;
Je suis à mon bien-aimé, et lui, il est épris de moi.
Là je te prodiguerai mes caresses.

Let us rise early to the vineyards [(synagogues and houses of study)]. Let us see if the vine [(an allusion to Scripture scholars)] has flowered, if the grape-blossoms [(Mishnah scholars)] have opened, if the pomegranates [(Talmud scholars)] have bloomed. There I will show You my loved ones [(my sons and daughters)].

Rashi

English

Let us rise early for the vineyards. These are the synagogues and the study halls.

Let us see if the vine has blossomed. These are those who are versed in Scripture.

If the tender grapes have appeared. When the blossom falls off and the grapes are discernible, that is the appearance of the tender grapes. And he compares those versed in the Mishnah to them, because they are nearer [than those versed in Scripture] to derive pleasure in the instruction of the Torah.

If the pomegranates are in bloom. When they are ripe, and the flower around them falls off; “הֵנֵצוּ” means “its flower falls off.” He compares those versed in the Talmud to them, for they are at the level of maturity in [Torah] wisdom that is worthy to teach.

There I will give my love. There I will show You my honor and glory of my sons and daughters.
