Isaïe 58:5

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

58

2 וְאוֹתִ֗י י֥וֹם יוֹם֙ יִדְרֹשׁ֔וּן וְדַ֥עַת דְּרָכַ֖י יֶחְפָּצ֑וּן כְּג֞וֹי אֲשֶׁר־צְדָקָ֣ה עָשָׂ֗ה וּמִשְׁפַּ֤ט אֱלֹהָיו֙ לֹ֣א עָזָ֔ב יִשְׁאָל֙וּנִי֙ מִשְׁפְּטֵי־צֶ֔דֶק קִרְבַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים יֶחְפָּצֽוּן׃ Jour par jour ils s’adressent à moi et manifestent le désir de connaître mes voies; à la façon d’un peuple pratiquant la justice, qui n’aurait jamais trahi la loi de son Dieu, ils me demandent des règles de justice, ils sollicitent la présence de Dieu.
6 הֲל֣וֹא זֶה֮ צ֣וֹם אֶבְחָרֵ֒הוּ֒ פַּתֵּ֙חַ֙ חַרְצֻבּ֣וֹת רֶ֔שַׁע הַתֵּ֖ר אֲגֻדּ֣וֹת מוֹטָ֑ה וְשַׁלַּ֤ח רְצוּצִים֙ חׇפְשִׁ֔ים וְכׇל־מוֹטָ֖ה תְּנַתֵּֽקוּ׃ Mais voici le jeûne que j’aime: c’est de rompre les chaînes de l’injustice, de dénouer les liens de tous les jougs, de renvoyer libres ceux qu’on opprime, de briser enfin toute servitude;
9 אָ֤ז תִּקְרָא֙ וַיהֹוָ֣ה יַעֲנֶ֔ה תְּשַׁוַּ֖ע וְיֹאמַ֣ר הִנֵּ֑נִי אִם־תָּסִ֤יר מִתּֽוֹכְךָ֙ מוֹטָ֔ה שְׁלַ֥ח אֶצְבַּ֖ע וְדַבֶּר־אָֽוֶן׃ Alors tu appelleras et le Seigneur répondra, tu supplieras et il dira: "Me voici!"
12 וּבָנ֤וּ מִמְּךָ֙ חׇרְב֣וֹת עוֹלָ֔ם מוֹסְדֵ֥י דוֹר־וָד֖וֹר תְּקוֹמֵ֑ם וְקֹרָ֤א לְךָ֙ גֹּדֵ֣ר פֶּ֔רֶץ מְשֹׁבֵ֥ב נְתִיב֖וֹת לָשָֽׁבֶת׃ On restaurera, grâce à toi, les ruines antiques, tu relèveras des fondations qui datent des siècles passés, et tu seras proclamé le réparateur des brèches, le restaurateur des routes désormais populeuses.
14 אָ֗ז תִּתְעַנַּג֙ עַל־יְהֹוָ֔ה וְהִרְכַּבְתִּ֖יךָ עַל־[בָּ֣מֳתֵי] (במותי) אָ֑רֶץ וְהַאֲכַלְתִּ֗יךָ נַחֲלַת֙ יַעֲקֹ֣ב אָבִ֔יךָ כִּ֛י פִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר׃ {פ}

Is such the fast that I have chosen? The day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, And to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Wilt thou call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD?

Rashi

English

Is it to bend Heb. This ‘hey’ is the interrogative. That is to say, “Perhaps I require bending the head like a fishhook (כְּאַגְמֹן)?” אַגְמֹן is a sort of bent needle with which they catch fish, and they call it ajjm in O.F.

Will you call this a fast Heb. An interrogative form. Therefore, the ‘hey’ is punctuated with a ‘hataf-pattah.’

Targum Jonathan

English

Is this the fast which I delight in? a day to afflict oneself? Is it to have his head bent down as a bulrush, and passing the night in sackcloth and ashes? Will ye call this a fast before the presence of the Lord, and a day in which I delight?

Ibn Ezra

English

A day for a man to afflict his soul. Repetition of the same idea (a fast) in other words.

To bow down. It is a verb ע״ע similar in form to לקב to curse (Num. 23:11).

Bulrush. A tender plant, that bends its top; it is well known.

To spread. The Dagesh in צ compensates for the omission of the radical ;י comp. I form thee (Jer. 1:5); the full form is יַיְצִיעַ, and its meaning is to place as a couch; comp. יצע was spread (Est. 4:3)
