You shall distinguish between a [ritually] clean animal and a unclean one, between the unclean fowl and the clean one. Do not make yourselves disgusting through the animals, fowl or through any creature that creeps on the ground which I have distinguished for you as being unclean.

And you shall separate between the clean beast and the unclean [i.e., between that which is clean for you and that which is unclean, between the severing of the majority of the shechitah sign (in which instance the animal is kasher) and the severing of half (in which instance it is treifah)], and between the unclean fowl and the clean; and you shall not make yourselves despicable through the beast or the fowl, or through anything with which the ground swarms, which I have separated for you as unclean [i.e., as forbidden].

Ye shall therefore separate between the clean beast and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean; and ye shall not make your souls detestable by beast, or by fowl, or by any thing wherewith the ground teemeth, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean.

Targum Jonathan
English
And you shall make distinction between the animal which is fit to be eaten, and that which it is improper to eat; and between the fowl which it is improper to eat, and that which is fit to be eaten. Defile not your souls by (eating of) the animal that is torn by a wild beast, or the bird torn by the falcon, or anything that creepeth upon the which I have from you for their uncleanness.

Ibn Ezra
English
So must you distinguish among the animals. the ritually pure beast The ten enumerated animals [Deuteronomy 14:4] are kosher; all the others are unkosher.
the ritually impure bird Any bird mentioned [11:13] is unkosher; all the others are kosher.
to consider ritually impure i.e., you must know, in thought and in speech, that they are ritually impure. Compare, “you shall consider detestable among the birds” [11:13]. For this reason a resident alien may not eat an unkosher species of animal in the Holy Land — and it is only on this condition that he may live among us.

ולא תשקצו את נפשותיכם בבהמה ובעוף ובכל אשר תרמוש האדמה, from all kinds of “impure” living creatures אשר הבדלתי לכם, from the ritually “pure.”
לטמא, in the sense that physically revolting creatures and especially ingesting them, will eventually contaminate the soul, the spiritual basis of the human being who has consumed them. This negative fallout is the result only of eating such creatures, not of carrying on trade involving them.
