1 לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ עַֽל־הַגִּתִּ֗ית מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃ Au chef des chantres. Sur la Ghitit. Psaume de David.

2 יְהֹוָ֤ה אֲדֹנֵ֗ינוּ מָה־אַדִּ֣יר שִׁ֭מְךָ בְּכׇל־הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּנָ֥ה ה֝וֹדְךָ֗ עַל־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ Éternel, notre Seigneur! que ton nom est glorieux par toute la terre! car tu as répandu ta majesté sur les cieux.

3 מִפִּ֤י עוֹלְלִ֨ים ׀ וְֽיֹנְקִים֮ יִסַּ֢דְתָּ֫ עֹ֥ז לְמַ֥עַן צוֹרְרֶ֑יךָ לְהַשְׁבִּ֥ית א֝וֹיֵ֗ב וּמִתְנַקֵּֽם׃ Par la bouche des enfants et des nourrissons tu as fondé ta puissance. En dépit de tes détracteurs, tu réduis à l’impuissance ennemis et adversaires rancuniers.

4 כִּֽי־אֶרְאֶ֣ה שָׁ֭מֶיךָ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה אֶצְבְּעֹתֶ֑יךָ יָרֵ֥חַ וְ֝כוֹכָבִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר כּוֹנָֽנְתָּה׃ Lorsque je contemple tes cieux, œuvre de ta main, la lune et les étoiles que tu as formées…

5 מָה־אֱנ֥וֹשׁ כִּֽי־תִזְכְּרֶ֑נּוּ וּבֶן־אָ֝דָ֗ם כִּ֣י תִפְקְדֶֽנּוּ׃ Qu’est donc l’homme, que tu penses à lui? Le fils d’Adam, que tu le protèges?

6 וַתְּחַסְּרֵ֣הוּ מְּ֭עַט מֵאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְכָב֖וֹד וְהָדָ֣ר תְּעַטְּרֵֽהוּ׃ Pourtant tu l’as fait presque l’égal des êtres divins; tu l’as couronné de gloire et de magnificence!

7 תַּ֭מְשִׁילֵהוּ בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֣י יָדֶ֑יךָ כֹּ֝֗ל שַׁ֣תָּה תַֽחַת־רַגְלָֽיו׃ tu lui as donné l’empire sur les œuvres de tes mains, et mis tout à ses pieds:

8 צֹנֶ֣ה וַאֲלָפִ֣ים כֻּלָּ֑ם וְ֝גַ֗ם בַּהֲמ֥וֹת שָׂדָֽי׃ brebis et taureaux, tous ensemble, et aussi les bêtes des champs,

9 צִפּ֣וֹר שָׁ֭מַיִם וּדְגֵ֣י הַיָּ֑ם עֹ֝בֵ֗ר אׇרְח֥וֹת יַמִּֽים׃ oiseaux du ciel et poissons de la mer, ce qui parcourt les routes des océans.

10 יְהֹוָ֥ה אֲדֹנֵ֑ינוּ מָה־אַדִּ֥יר שִׁ֝מְךָ֗ בְּכׇל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ {פ}
Éternel, notre Seigneur! que ton nom est glorieux par toute la terre!

Yet You have made him slightly less than the angels, etc. Heb. מאלהים, which is an expression of angels, for You gave power to Joshua to still the sun and to dry up the Jordan, and to Moses to split the waters of the Sea of Reeds and to ascend to the heavens, and to Elijah to resurrect the dead.

For Thou hast made him but little lower than Elohim: – that is, the angels – in that the spirit of man is of the (same) quality as that of the angels, which is incorporeal just as they are incorporeal; and the inferiority consists in the fact of its (i.e. man's spirit) being (lodged) in a body.

And crownest him with glory and honour – by the higher spirit which Thou hast placed in him. And by it
