Aliya 6

6 כִּֽי־יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ בֵּֽרַכְךָ֔ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּר־לָ֑ךְ וְהַֽעֲבַטְתָּ֞ גּוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֗ים וְאַתָּה֙ לֹ֣א תַעֲבֹ֔ט וּמָֽשַׁלְתָּ֙ בְּגוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֔ים וּבְךָ֖ לֹ֥א יִמְשֹֽׁלוּ׃ {ס}         Car alors l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira comme il te l’a promis; et tu pourras prêter à bien des peuples, mais tu n’emprunteras point; et tu domineras sur bien des peuples, mais on ne dominera pas sur toi.
7 כִּֽי־יִהְיֶה֩ בְךָ֨ אֶבְי֜וֹן מֵאַחַ֤ד אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ בְּאַחַ֣ד שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ בְּאַ֨רְצְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ לֹ֧א תְאַמֵּ֣ץ אֶת־לְבָבְךָ֗ וְלֹ֤א תִקְפֹּץ֙ אֶת־יָ֣דְךָ֔ מֵאָחִ֖יךָ הָאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ Que s’il y a chez toi un indigent, d’entre tes frères, dans l’une de tes villes, au pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te destine, tu n’endurciras point ton cœur, ni ne fermeras ta main à ton frère nécessiteux.
11 כִּ֛י לֹא־יֶחְדַּ֥ל אֶבְי֖וֹן מִקֶּ֣רֶב הָאָ֑רֶץ עַל־כֵּ֞ן אָנֹכִ֤י מְצַוְּךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר פָּ֠תֹ֠חַ תִּפְתַּ֨ח אֶת־יָדְךָ֜ לְאָחִ֧יךָ לַעֲנִיֶּ֛ךָ וּלְאֶבְיֹנְךָ֖ בְּאַרְצֶֽךָ׃ {ס}         Or, il y aura toujours des nécessiteux dans le pays; c’est pourquoi, je te fais cette recommandation: ouvre, ouvre ta main à ton frère, au pauvre, au nécessiteux qui sera dans ton pays!
16 וְהָיָה֙ כִּֽי־יֹאמַ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ לֹ֥א אֵצֵ֖א מֵעִמָּ֑ךְ כִּ֤י אֲהֵֽבְךָ֙ וְאֶת־בֵּיתֶ֔ךָ כִּי־ט֥וֹב ל֖וֹ עִמָּֽךְ׃ Il peut arriver que l’esclave te dise: "Je ne veux point te quitter," attaché qu’il sera à toi et à ta maison, parce qu’il aura été heureux chez toi;
18 לֹא־יִקְשֶׁ֣ה בְעֵינֶ֗ךָ בְּשַׁלֵּֽחֲךָ֨ אֹת֤וֹ חׇפְשִׁי֙ מֵֽעִמָּ֔ךְ כִּ֗י מִשְׁנֶה֙ שְׂכַ֣ר שָׂכִ֔יר עֲבָֽדְךָ֖ שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וּבֵֽרַכְךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃ {פ}

23 רַ֥ק אֶת־דָּמ֖וֹ לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֑ל עַל־הָאָ֥רֶץ תִּשְׁפְּכֶ֖נּוּ כַּמָּֽיִם׃ {פ}

Ibn Ezra

I have already given the reason for piercing his ear at the door [comment on Exodus 21: 6]. The reason Scripture mentions this again is that you owe him a debt when he goes free; but, if he does not want to go, you must pierce his ear instead.

So shall you do even to your maid-servant refers back to “supply him with a bonus” [: 14] (even though it is remote — compare the antecedents of “He must make restitution; if he has nothing wherewith to pay…” [Exodus 22: 2], “if these three…” [Exodus 21: 11], and many others [see also comment on Leviticus 19: 25]), because a woman’s ear is not pierced [Qiddushin 17b].
