Enfants de Japhet Gourer, Magog, Madaï, Yavân, Toubal, Méchec et Tiràs.

11 מִן־הָאָ֥רֶץ הַהִ֖וא יָצָ֣א אַשּׁ֑וּר וַיִּ֙בֶן֙ אֶת־נִ֣ינְוֵ֔ה וְאֶת־רְחֹבֹ֥ת עִ֖יר וְאֶת־כָּֽלַח׃ De cette contrée il s’en alla en Assur, où il bâtit Ninive, Rehoboth Ir et Kélah;
13 וּמִצְרַ֡יִם יָלַ֞ד אֶת־לוּדִ֧ים וְאֶת־עֲנָמִ֛ים וְאֶת־לְהָבִ֖ים וְאֶת־נַפְתֻּחִֽים׃ Misraim fut la souche des Loudim, des Anamim, des Lehabim, des Naftouhim;

Canaan engendra Sidon, son premier-né, puis Heth

Enfants d’Aram: Ouy, Houl, Ghéther et Mach.
Arphaxad engendra Chélah, et Chélah engendra Héber.
Yoktân engendra Almodad, Chélef, Haçarmaveth, Yérah.

Ophir, Havila et Yobab. Tous ceux-là furent enfants de Yoktân.
32 אֵ֣לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֧ת בְּנֵי־נֹ֛חַ לְתוֹלְדֹתָ֖ם בְּגוֹיֵהֶ֑ם וּמֵאֵ֜לֶּה נִפְרְד֧וּ הַגּוֹיִ֛ם בָּאָ֖רֶץ אַחַ֥ר הַמַּבּֽוּל׃ {פ}

Ramban (Nachmanides)

English

THE SONS OF JAPHETH: GOMER. Scripture begins with Japheth for he was the oldest. After him, it mentions Ham [even though he was the youngest] for Scripture wanted to delay the account of the generations of Shem in order to place side by side the two sections dealing with Shem’s children since it is important to dwell at length on the generations of Abraham.

Radak (David Kimhi)

English

בני יפת גמר, according to Rabbeinu Saadyah gaon, he was the founder of the nation known as Altrach.

משך, on the other hand, according to Josephus he was the founder of the nation known as Tushchana, a people professing the Christian faith nowadays, and leaders of that faith. Rome itself is within the boundaries of that nation.

ותירס, according to our sages (Yuma 10) this is Persia.
