Psaumes 73:4

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

73

Psaume d’Assaph. Ah!
Le Dieu suprême possède-t-il la science?"
17 עַד־אָ֭בוֹא אֶל־מִקְדְּשֵׁי־אֵ֑ל אָ֝בִ֗ינָה לְאַחֲרִיתָֽם׃ jusqu’à ce que, pénétrant dans le sanctuaire de Dieu, je me fusse rendu compte de leur fin.
23 וַאֲנִ֣י תָמִ֣יד עִמָּ֑ךְ אָ֝חַ֗זְתָּ בְּיַד־יְמִינִֽי׃ Mais désormais je resterai toujours avec toi: tu as saisi ma main droite;
24 בַּעֲצָתְךָ֥ תַנְחֵ֑נִי וְ֝אַחַ֗ר כָּב֥וֹד תִּקָּחֵֽנִי׃ tu me guideras par ton conseil, et finalement tu me recueilleras avec honneur.
28 וַאֲנִ֤י ׀ קִ֥רְבַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֗ים לִ֫י־ט֥וֹב שַׁתִּ֤י ׀ בַּאדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֣ה מַחְסִ֑י לְ֝סַפֵּ֗ר כׇּל־מַלְאֲכוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ {פ}

Rashi

English

For there are no fetters to their death Heb. חרצבות, an expression of tying, as (Isa. 58:6): “to undo the fetters (חרצבות) of wickedness,” meaning the locks of the fetters with which they bind the poor. Here, too, there are no pains to their death. Those who die among them die healthy, [strong as] a palace, without pains. But our Rabbis explained חַרְצֻבּוֹת as an abbreviation, meaning that they are not (שאין) frightened (חרדין) or saddened (עצבין) by the day of death (Shab. 31b). Another explanation: that the Holy One, blessed be He, does not delay (מאחר) their desire (צביונם).

Ibn Ezra

Radak (David Kimhi)

English

For there are no pains in their death. They enjoy goodness throughout their lives, until the day of their death. Even at the time of their death, they pass away calmly without distress. The meaning of "pains" refers to ties or connections, and someone who dies in pain and difficulty is as if they have ties that bind them to the realm of the living, and those ties do not release easily but with great difficulty. However, they pass away in tranquility as if there are no ties binding them to their death.

And yet they are healthy. They are robust and vigorous.

BodyIt is said that God's hands are not empty. It means that during their lifetime, they have natural strength that is healthy and strong, and in their death, they die peacefully.
