Psaumes 73:7

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

73

Psaume d’Assaph. Ah!
Le Dieu suprême possède-t-il la science?"
17 עַד־אָ֭בוֹא אֶל־מִקְדְּשֵׁי־אֵ֑ל אָ֝בִ֗ינָה לְאַחֲרִיתָֽם׃ jusqu’à ce que, pénétrant dans le sanctuaire de Dieu, je me fusse rendu compte de leur fin.
23 וַאֲנִ֣י תָמִ֣יד עִמָּ֑ךְ אָ֝חַ֗זְתָּ בְּיַד־יְמִינִֽי׃ Mais désormais je resterai toujours avec toi: tu as saisi ma main droite;
24 בַּעֲצָתְךָ֥ תַנְחֵ֑נִי וְ֝אַחַ֗ר כָּב֥וֹד תִּקָּחֵֽנִי׃ tu me guideras par ton conseil, et finalement tu me recueilleras avec honneur.
28 וַאֲנִ֤י ׀ קִ֥רְבַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֗ים לִ֫י־ט֥וֹב שַׁתִּ֤י ׀ בַּאדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֣ה מַחְסִ֑י לְ֝סַפֵּ֗ר כׇּל־מַלְאֲכוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ {פ}

Rashi

English

Because of their fat, their eyes bulge Their eyes bulge because of the abundant fat, for in an emaciated person, the eyes are sunken.

they surpassed the imaginings of their heart More than what their heart hopes for and awaits, came to them. In the attainment of their hand, they surpassed the desire of their heart.

Ibn Ezra

Radak (David Kimhi)

English

"They protrude." Due to excessive fat, their eyes appear as if they are bulging out, as if they have no eyes. Because of the thickness of their facial fat, their eyes are covered.

They have passed the limits of their heart. It is interpreted as a withdrawal from truth, and the heart is called deceitful because it contemplates things. In other words, whatever they contemplate in terms of the good things of the world, thinking that they will have more and more of them, will ultimately pass them by, contrary to what they had imagined.
