Do not pervert justice; do not display favoritism; and do not accept bribery, for bribery blinds the eyes of the wise and distorts words that are just.

English · The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein
You shall not pervert judgment, and you shall not play favorites, [even during the pleading — an exhortation to the judge not to be firm with one and lenient with the other, e.g., making one stand and allowing the other to sit], and you shall not take a bribe [even to judge righteously]; for a bribe blinds the eyes of the sages [(Once the judge takes a bribe from someone it is impossible for him not to seek arguments in his favor)], and it distorts righteous words [i.e., true judgments].

Commentaires sur Deutéronome 16:19
Rashi
English
Do not pervert justice. - This means what is says it mean.
Do not play favorites. Even while the litigants are making their cases. This is a warning to the judge that he not be gentle with one party and severe with the other, or making one stand before him while the other is allowed to remain seated. For when the (unfavored) litigant sees that the judge is honoring his friend (the other party), he will not bother to make his arguments.
Do not take bribes -- Even to judge in a just manner.
Because bribery blinds. -

You shall not set judgment aside, nor respect persons, nor take a gift, because a gift blindeth the eyes of the wise who take it; for it perverteth them to foolishness, and confuseth equitable words in the mouth of the judges in the hour of their decision
