Genèse 35:5

Bible du Rabbinat 1899 [fr]

35

8 וַתָּ֤מׇת דְּבֹרָה֙ מֵינֶ֣קֶת רִבְקָ֔ה וַתִּקָּבֵ֛ר מִתַּ֥חַת לְבֵֽית־אֵ֖ל תַּ֣חַת הָֽאַלּ֑וֹן וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ אַלּ֥וֹן בָּכֽוּת׃ {פ}

22 וַיְהִ֗י בִּשְׁכֹּ֤ן יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַהִ֔וא וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ רְאוּבֵ֗֔ן וַיִּשְׁכַּ֕ב֙ אֶת־בִּלְהָ֖ה֙ פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ אָבִ֑֔יו וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑͏ֽל׃ {פ}
Fils de Léa: le premier né de Jacob, Ruben; puis Siméon, Lévi, Juda, Issachar et Zabulon.
Fils de Rachel: Joseph et Benjamin.
25 וּבְנֵ֤י בִלְהָה֙ שִׁפְחַ֣ת רָחֵ֔ל דָּ֖ן וְנַפְתָּלִֽי׃ Fils de Bilha, l’esclave de Rachel: Dan et Nephtali;
29 וַיִּגְוַ֨ע יִצְחָ֤ק וַיָּ֙מׇת֙ וַיֵּאָ֣סֶף אֶל־עַמָּ֔יו זָקֵ֖ן וּשְׂבַ֣ע יָמִ֑ים וַיִּקְבְּר֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ עֵשָׂ֥ו וְיַעֲקֹ֖ב בָּנָֽיו׃ {פ}

ויסעו, ויהי חתת אלוקים, the reason why this fact is reported is that Shechem was a fortified city, and when the Israelites left the protection of the walls of that city there as a danger that the surrounding Canaanites would view this as their opportunity to attack and destroy them. The Torah therefore reports that the reason they did not was that they had been overcome with awe for the Jewish G’d.
