11
Si tu me destines un tel sort, ah!

Rashi
English
The people cried out to Moshe. This is compared to a mortal king who was angry with his son. The son went to his father’s intimate friend, and said to him, ‘Go, ask [for forgiveness] for me from father.’
And the fire subsided. It subsided into its place, for if it had turned to any one direction, it would have gathered itself and proceeded in that entire direction.

This was something supernatural, not compatible with the normal behaviour of fire. Fire rises, does not sink into the earth.
