Moïse et le pontife Eléazar, ayant reçu l’or de la part des chiliarques et des centurions, l’apportèrent dans la tente d’assignation, comme mémorial des enfants d’Israël devant le Seigneur.

Commentaires sur Nombres 31:22
Rashi
English
Only the gold, etc. Although Moshe did not warn you except for the laws of ritual uncleanliness, you must be warned further, concerning the laws of purging. “Only” denotes exclusion, as if to say, ‘you are excluded from using the utensils, even after their purification from contamination by the dead, until they are purified from the absorption of forbidden “neveilah” meat.’ Our Rabbis remark that “only the gold, etc.” teaches that one must remove its rust before purging it. This is the connotation of the word “only” — there should be no rust there, only the metal, exactly as it is.

אך את הזהב, however, metal objects require an additional procedure before they are ritually clean, namely immersion in a ritual bath, (or rinsing in boiling water, or even making it red-hot, depending on how these utensils had been used.)
