1 לָ֭מָּה רָגְשׁ֣וּ גוֹיִ֑ם וּ֝לְאֻמִּ֗ים יֶהְגּוּ־רִֽיק׃ Pourquoi se démènent les peuples, et les nations agitent-elles de vains projets?

2 יִ֥תְיַצְּב֨וּ ׀ מַלְכֵי־אֶ֗רֶץ וְרוֹזְנִ֥ים נֽוֹסְדוּ־יָ֑חַד עַל־יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה וְעַל־מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃ Les rois de la terre se soulèvent, les princes se liguent ensemble contre l’Éternel et son oint.

3 נְֽ֭נַתְּקָה אֶת־מֽוֹסְרוֹתֵ֑ימוֹ וְנַשְׁלִ֖יכָה מִמֶּ֣נּוּ עֲבֹתֵֽימוֹ׃ "Brisons [disent-ils] leurs liens. Rejetons loin de nous leurs chaînes!"

4 יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם יִשְׂחָ֑ק אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י יִלְעַג־לָֽמוֹ׃ Celui qui réside dans les cieux en rit, le Seigneur se raille d’eux.

5 אָ֤ז יְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלֵ֣ימוֹ בְאַפּ֑וֹ וּֽבַחֲרוֹנ֥וֹ יְבַהֲלֵֽמוֹ׃ Puis il les apostrophe dans sa colère et, dans son courroux, il les terrifie:

6 וַ֭אֲנִי נָסַ֣כְתִּי מַלְכִּ֑י עַל־צִ֝יּ֗וֹן הַר־קׇדְשִֽׁי׃ "C’est moi [dit-il] qui ai consacré mon roi sur Sion, ma montagne sainte!"

7 אֲסַפְּרָ֗ה אֶֽ֫ל־חֹ֥ק יְֽהֹוָ֗ה אָמַ֘ר־אֵלַ֥י בְּנִ֥י אַ֑תָּה אֲ֝נִ֗י הַיּ֥וֹם יְלִדְתִּֽיךָ׃ Je veux proclamer ce qui est une loi immuable: "L’Éternel m’a dit: Tu es mon fils, c’est moi qui, aujourd’hui, t’ai engendré!

8 שְׁאַ֤ל מִמֶּ֗נִּי וְאֶתְּנָ֣ה ג֭וֹיִם נַחֲלָתֶ֑ךָ וַ֝אֲחֻזָּתְךָ֗ אַפְסֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃ Demande-le-moi, et je te donnerai des peuples comme héritage, les confins de la terre pour domaine.

9 תְּ֭רֹעֵם בְּשֵׁ֣בֶט בַּרְזֶ֑ל כִּכְלִ֖י יוֹצֵ֣ר תְּנַפְּצֵֽם׃ Tu les briseras avec un sceptre de fer, tu les broieras comme un vase de potier."

10 וְ֭עַתָּה מְלָכִ֣ים הַשְׂכִּ֑ילוּ הִ֝וָּסְר֗וּ שֹׁ֣פְטֵי אָֽרֶץ׃ Et maintenant, ô rois, sachez comprendre, tenez-vous pour avertis, juges de la terre!

11 עִבְד֣וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּיִרְאָ֑ה וְ֝גִ֗ילוּ בִּרְעָדָֽה׃ Adorez l’Éternel avec crainte, et réjouissez-vous [en Dieu] avec tremblement.

12 נַשְּׁקוּ־בַ֡ר פֶּן־יֶאֱנַ֤ף ׀ וְתֹ֬אבְדוּ דֶ֗רֶךְ כִּֽי־יִבְעַ֣ר כִּמְעַ֣ט אַפּ֑וֹ אַ֝שְׁרֵ֗י כׇּל־ח֥וֹסֵי בֽוֹ׃ {פ}
Rendez hommage au fils, de peur qu’il ne s’indigne, et que vous n’alliez a votre perte; car bien vite sa colère prend feu: heureux tous ceux qui s’abritent en lui!

Some say (yesh omrim): [That the word] He will speak (yedaber) means "He will destroy" (ye'abed). [They compare it to] (II Kings 11:1) "and she destroyed (va-tedaber) all the royal seed." This [verb dabar] is thus an expression of death (leshon mavet), similar to (Hosea 13:14) "O Death, where are your plagues/destruction (devarekha)". [They argue further] that it is written in another book [referring again to the account in Kings or a related source] that va-tedaber ("and she destroyed") is from the root [meaning] a very heavy plague/matter (davar kaved me'od).

[Regarding] Eleimo (אֵלֵימוֹ - to them): [Some interpret this as referring to] the strong ones (ha-chazakim), comparing it to (Ezekiel 17:13) "and he took the mighty (eilei) of the land." However, this is not correct (ve-eineno nakhon). Because "the mighty (eilei) of the land" is used metaphorically [for leaders], in the same manner as "the strong bulls (abbirei) of Bashan" (Psalm 22:13). Also, [the word eil meaning mighty/ram] has a yod (איל) as it is derived from [a root related to] ayil (ram/strength). [Therefore, eleimo here, without the yod, is not referring to 'the mighty ones'].

Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath: – Then, when He shall hear their words and their pride, He shall speak unto them in His wrath.

And vex them in His sore displeasure: – And His words with them are His anger and sore displeasure which He shall hurl at them. Some interpret ידבר (speak) in the sense of דבֶר (plague) [in the passage] “a plague (דבר) grievously heavy” (Exod. 9:3). And so (also) “and she destroyed (ותדבר) all the seed royal” (2 Chron. 22:10); and they interpret אלימו (to them) as in the verse “the אילי (chief men) of the land” (2 Kings 24:15), of which the meaning is the powerful ones of the land. But the former is nearer (to the right meaning).
