the tinshemet Everyone who sees it is terrified [Hebrew: yashum]. This name is also found among the insects [:30].
the qa’at Some people say that it is the nature of this bird to vomit [Hebrew: lhaqi’] its food.
the raḥam Sa‘adya Gaon asserts that the Arabic name of this bird is rakam , identical except for a k instead of a ḥ (in their alphabet they use the same letter to denote both sounds). Others say that this bird is merciful [Hebrew: meraḥem] to its young.
